It was, one of three.
The MAFs on my C5s had a thermistor in them so your's most likely has too.

Re: Peugeot Boxer 1.9d Problem
Have you had it on diagnostics? Despite ohmically looking good, I've seen a duff Needle Lift Sensor cause issues like this...
Diagnostics will be well worth it to offer some potential clues...

Re: Peugeot Boxer 1.9d Problem
I have tried everything with this thing still no joy only thing I haven’t tried is moving the belt a tooth either way on the pump to see if it improves but it does all time up ok the only other thing that happened before all this was sometimes the immobiliser wouldn’t go of when the ignition was turned on but that seems ok now tested the advance solenoid and that is working on guess I’ve got nothing to loose moving the belt can’t get much worse

Hi all..
Doggone1
Glad advance solenoids good, not cheap..
I have done just that on mine, one tooth clockwise..
you can make the noise go away by playing with the adjustable pulley on the fuel pump..
I’ve got my van running with the top cambelt cover off and a 13mm socket and ratchet at the ready..
It all seems to change though one day it will run ok 70+
Leave it on that setting, next day when warm totally different..
I have to drive out my estate with it knocking it’s head off and bellowing smoke a Challenger tank would be proud of!! And 50mph tops!!
When up to temperature may have to adjust it a little.. very puzzling and now thinking of scraping it and listing bits on here
No I can’t give up.. !!

Re: Peugeot Boxer 1.9d Problem
In view of the above plans it would be a very good plan to recheck and check again the cam/pump/crank timing is correct...
On these engines it is so, so easy to end up half a tooth or more out without even trying...
It's critical the crank, pump and cam are all properly pinned and the belt run between the crank, pump and cam being initially tight with no slack. Any slack in the belt taken up by the tensioner must all be on the tensioner and waterpump side... Any slack in the run between crank, pump and cam will end up causing a timing error and it only takes a small error to cause the engine to run poorly...
Always rotate the engine at least two full revolutions clockwise after replacing the cambelt to ensure timing has remained spot-on and use the locking pins to confirm.
If it's out then redo it until it's right...

Re: Peugeot Boxer 1.9d Problem
I have done that time and time again but to no avail..
Then I started playing with pump adjustment to pulley..
But how I’m wondering the other morning did it go from running bad to good by just pulling over switching off and re starting..
Waiting on new MAF Tomorrow..
can only wait and see what happens then..
Can’t get it on diagnostics till next week..

Re: Peugeot Boxer 1.9d Problem
Thanks I will check once more but must have done it four times and it always pins up correctly only possible thing I can think of if a woodruff key is missing or something highly unlikely but unless the pumps still faulty can’t think of anything else I disconnected the advance solenoid and tried running with it powered on and of with a separate feed but didn’t seem to make any difference disconnected the battery when it was running out of desperation that didn’t help but it still kept going thought it would have died

Re: Peugeot Boxer 1.9d Problem
Have you checked the easy stuff, blocked air filter, blocked fuel filter, an air leak in the fuel line, or contaminated fuel? what pump has it got? Lucas, bosch,
electronic pump.?
electronic pump.?

Re: Peugeot Boxer 1.9d Problem
This really is quite a puzzle now... I'd be so tempted to get a diagnostic session...
Be good to see if a new MAF sorts it...
Fingers crossed

Re: Peugeot Boxer 1.9d Problem
Evening all, well don’t want to get my hopes up to much as a cold start still needs to be done in the morning..
BUT I have just fitted my new £29 from eBay MAF and she seems a bit better straight away..
On looking inside my old MAF one of the very small wires/sensors inside had broken away from one of its mounts.????
Maybe the other morning when I switched off and re started and all was better somehow it made the sensor re-connect. ???

They are very delicate and it is a definite possibility that that was the problem.Bolt34 wrote: 19 Oct 2022, 22:05

It has though been mentioned several times in the past that cheaper MAFs either perform poorly or don't last long.
I bought mine from the dealer, wasn't too badly priced. £124 in 2011.
It was failing after just over a year but a squirt of carburettor cleaner fixed it and it was fine until I parted with the car two years ago.

Can’t type to well as my fingers are still crossed..
I may get a better one at a later date, £29 still cheaper than diagnostics..
