Do cabin filters actually get changed?

My other half thinks everything she does is an unbearable chore that she has to do, whereas everything I do is only because it's fun.

I can be busy all day doing a hundred awful tasks and she's convinced I've been playing out all day having fun.

I need to moan more, I might get a bit of appreciation then.

Nah, just be bedridden for a couple of months. She then has to get stuff done that you normally do, and she will then see how hard it is. Once you recover she shouldn't moan much more (yeah, right!).

Do any filters get changed?
Air and cabin filters can be checked but oil and fuel are obviously a different matter together with oil in diesel engines which is back to black from the first startup.
I don't think that I am being cynical but company vehicles are just driven by someone who needs to get from A to B and the drivers need arm locking to get the vehicle "serviced" .They would be unlikely to want to ensure that the relevant items were changed.
These vehicles then get onto the second hand market - so a good service would be needed when bought.

My 2004 Alfa had the original pollen filter when I changed it for the first time in 2018.

I guess it's an easy corner to cut when servicing - it's not going to be apparent to the customer that it wasn't changed until things are totally bunged up...years later

3. Car returned from service with trim missing. On complaining, they found it in their rubbish bin, broken.

This one does my head in, and happened to me at a Honda dealer. Noticed the engine cover was missing a few days after getting an aircon compressor changed. Went back to complain and got a shrug from the service manager. Went next door to the parts dept, got a quote for a new engine cover and brought it back to the service dept. They fished my cover out of the skip in under 5 minutes

As we are on a bit if a downer on this post, shall we try and be a bit more upbeat - how about candidates for easiest pollen filter change?

I think the 206 has to be up at the top - takes longer to remember the bonnet release is in the left not right footwell than to reach in, grab the element and swap in the new one!

Perhaps quite a high ranking in a "least convincing filter engagement" list too though!

I've had a lot of 2000-2010 Hondas and Toyotas - most of them had the pollen filter behind the glove compartment. Doesn't get much easier than that

While looking for engine service kits online, I came across one that included a cabin pollen filter for the first time. This immediately got me to check my own in Pint Pot - our Fiat Ducato (Boxer when I use DiagBox on it).

This is what I found.

and this is what replaced it!!!

Oops! Should have been done when we first got it. Better late than never.

Well I saw yesterday that the inside of the screen on the trusty Berlingo was running with condensation. I looked at the drain hole in the bottom corner of the windscreen and found a leaf that was exactly the right size perfectly covering it, it was like a fitted carpet over the drain grille. So presumably the rain was overflowing into the airways as it was parked pointing downhill, probably including soaking the pollen filter.

If it wasn't a Berlingo then I'd pull it out to check if it was wet. But it is so I won't put myself through the ordeal, just went for a drive with the fan turned up, will consider that job done until next year.

Nice idea with the marker pen giving the date and mileage. If I was more organised I'd do that.

Not sure I could described myself as organised, having not changed that element in so many years!

Love labelling stuff, tend to try cheap parts in most applications, if I've labelled it, gives me a clue when I'm back changing it again in a short space of time that a previous purchase wasn't quite the bargain it first appeared! Used to do oil filter with a white touch up pen but used it up, must get another or whatever that white pen is scrapyards all seem to use nowadays.
