Just got a letter from Direct Line (My insurer) offering an opt in to a discount for doing less miles than usual, Mileage Money Back, 2% off your premium for every 1,000 miles less than normal up to 20% off for 10,000 miles less.

Also offering a refund off for miles not done during lockdown.

Age seems to be a factor without doubt. My kids have always put me down as a named driver on their policies, because it substantially reduced their premiums.
However, on reaching 70 the opposite is happening. My daughters premium dropped by 400 squid by not including me.

My fully comp protected NCD has dropped £100 on the X7 this year to £169 .... no complaints there (I did drop usage to 8K annually at present due to lockdown).

I’ve got a 43 year old Triumph Stag that I insured with Classic Line and it was just over £100/yr including full European breakdown.
A couple of years ago I added my C8 to that policy (still including European breakdown cover) and (fingers crossed) am still paying less for the two cars than I did for just my C8 :). Can’t recollect the exact figure but just over £300.

This will be my fourth year with Direct line and they are still cheaper than any on the comparison websites. My insurance took a hike this year but I put that down to the fact that I'm 81 and had a minor accident last year  , backed into a friends car, no damage on mine but scraped the side of his. As I have protected no claims I wouldn't have thought that would have made a difference, so I checked the usual web sites and they wanted considerably more, so I have no choice really. My wife's insurance is cheaper but she is still in her '70s.

They upped my renewal price too Peter but after a call to their customer line they knocked fifty quid off the renewal price, still a bit more than last year but no one else beats it.
Went to their website yesterday and signed up for the 'less mileage' discount I mentioned in my last post.

I have two letters from them, one for my car and one for the wifes. Not a lot but as you say better than nothing.

A few years back I had a MG sports car insured with Saga which was very cheap - about £180 fully comp for my 1st year! On renewal it went up to over £400, so I obviously went else where.
As said shop around.

Saga, the rip off the over fifties group. :) they've never offered anything that couldn't be bought considerably cheaper elsewhere.

My truck insurance is due for renewal soon and Direct Line sent me the renewal notice saying they'd auto renew for £241, up from £196 last year. I did the usual comparison checks and found an identical commercial policy for £201 with....... Direct Line. So I phoned them up to decline the renewal and ask if they'd renew there and then at the cheaper price I'd got online, or whether I'd have to go and renew it online. I told the helpful lady I'd got the quote reference number if she needed it, but she declined. She merely asked to confirm 4 questions along the lines of "Is the new quote based on the same terms as the old quote" to which I answered 'Yes'. She then said she'd match that price without further enquiries or questions. A very simple phone call saved me £45. Result :-D

You have to give them 10/10 for trying though...

My renewals from Direct line have increased for the last two years, but I can't find anyone cheaper - or as cheap. I will see what this year brings.

I'm sure you're already aware, but a few tips - try changing your cover to Social / Domestic if there is no requirement for commuting to work as that reduces risk considerably, as well as limit your mileage down to more or less a little over what you average in a year.

Way back in the fifties I used to insure mine RTA (Road traffic act) only, cost £7 a year. I don't think that's an option now.
