You've been checking up on me have you. Yes I bought it, picking it up in the morning. He has taken my old Merc, not given me much for it but at least I won't have to get it through the MOT in October.

Will give you a report when I get back tomorrow.

Well come to the C5 club Peter, I've just done my summer trip to south of France the Haute Garonne region. 2400 miles round trip.Drove from Aurignac to Chingford on 1 tank of fuel and still had about 100 miles left.
This is what I bought the car for comfort on the long trips.
Enjoy.

Blimey, that was a bit of a bargain  I think even if I had to throw a grand at it straight away I'd still be happy. :)

Hmmm, I'm doing the forensics on it already - having the VIN from the Reg. It is odd that although there seems to be rear parking sensors from the photos (and noted in the seller description), the VIN would indicate no parking assistance and the brochure of the also time doesn't include them (Exclusive only unless Detection Packs were specified) - so are probably just blank plugs - so I hope that wasn't important to you Peter.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Hi all. I've had my C5 X7 Tourer since October 2014. It's a late 2011 model with the 163hp hdi engine. It had 80000 miles on the clock when I bought it and it now has just over 175000. It rides wonderfully even though it's the VTR+ with steel springs and it has been very well behaved. I service it every 12000 miles and look after it. These cars are beautifully made and they are so quiet when you are cruising at some rather high speeds. The headlights are superb. Mine has the normal halogen bulbs but they are excellent. Mine has the 6speed manual gearbox, I had its oil changed when it had done 100000 miles. I also use Castrol Titanium 5-30 engine oil rather than the total stuff. C3 spec Castrol Titanium FST is way better then the Total stuff. Great car and give it a proper service with decent high quality Mann filters and it will run for ever!

Very nice looking example, Peter. Hope it turns out all good for you. Let us know how the ride is on springs…and whether you feel as if you`re 'floating on a calm lake' as I said is my Hydractive suspension; perhaps a slight exaggeration on my part there, but that`s the mental picture I have of mine now anyhow.

.

Interested in Kenny`s post on oil. I've checked out the oil recommendations for my X7 2.0 HDi on this forum, a little confusing, but think I`ve understood. On the service I did, naturally I included an oil & filter change. I put in a C2 5/30 oil to flush, and now its time to replace again with `the real deal oil`. Is the C3 CT FST the best for my HDi too?

Run your reg number through the Castrol oil finder to see what they recommend.

Hi AJ, yes it is the C3 spec 5-30 Castrol Titanium FST. It's on offer too at Costco for £22 for 4 litres. You'll need 2 packs. The C3 spec has better protection for the engine and the same low ash content as the C2 spec. I've used it since I got my C5 X7 and I have never had a problem and it hardly uses any oil between services - and I tow too!!!

It can`t find my Reg so selected vehicle specification - which to my knowledge as confirmed at FCF, is DW10BTED4 138, and is the 103KW. But according to Castrol that appears to be a 2012 car?! Mine is '09.

Either way, both options for 2008 and 2012 cars recommend the same oil :

Castrol recommends for your Citroën C5, X7 (2008- )
Magnatec Stop-Start 5W-30 C2
Engine DW10BTED4

Castrol recommends for your Citroën C5, X7 (2008- ) ** Should say 2012-15 as its the 103KW option**
Magnatec Stop-Start 5W-30 C2
Engine DW10BTED4

The fact that I'm not a slave to the `Start-Stop` climate change convention aside, nor a total geek, I'm still not sure this is the best choice oil for my X7.

Okay, thanks Kenny, the C3 spec 5-30 Castrol Titanium `Edge` FST is currently favourite.

Don't forget that oils - and service intervals - have to cope with just about all scenarios. Manufacturer's frequently have a 'severe' service interval as well, but for the rest of us the service interval and lubrication recommendations have to cope with conditions you might equally find in the Highlands of Scotland or the south of France, and cars heavily laden or virtually empty, as well as heavy city driving and long motorway blasts. If most of your driving is not at these 'extremes' then it's probably not worth going for over spec'd oils. However, if high spec'd oils can be bought at a reasonable price then - why not ? :)
I always consider it reasonable to go for regular oil changes with good quality oil at the correct spec, as opposed regular oil changes with very expensive over spec'd oil :)
Having said that, I wouldn't use any spec of Eurocarparts own brand oil even if you gave it to me :rofl2:

I used to know a great bloke at EuroCarParts in just normal over the counter service, and because of all the parts and oils I was buying from them, he kept giving me discount, and told me that it was only right, even if management had told him not to. But he insisted on it, telling me so, and they sacked him.

He had an interesting life story and knew what was important, and also knew that they would sack him for disobedience too I expect. Good bloke, not because of the discount, but because he was true to what he believed in and had come from a place that taught him that lesson in life.

On the oil change front I concur, thinking regular change is more important over very expensive `spec oil (unless for Hi-Perf Ferraris etc), my Land Rover I did it every 3K miles, it didn`t really care what oil so long as there was plenty and was relatively clean.
