Re: C5 Mk 1 front suspension issue
hi tontonjon its possible your strut is damper seals is leaking badly. This leakage will goes to the return pipe beside the damper strut at the bottom n goes back to the reservoir. You still can run it for sometime but the return pipe will burst one fine day so you better source for a used strut if you tight on cash.

Re: C5 Mk 1 front suspension issue
Thanks for that. I'm hoping so, as a new strut is with the mechanic now. I also hope that he is fixing it right now! I bought a new strut as although I don't have a lot of money at least there's a guarantee it will last. It'll see the car through the rest of its life, no doubt. I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: C5 Mk 1 front suspension issue
Final note: problem now solved. It WAS the front right strut, leaking badly. To test, the mechanic pulled off the return hose and fluid shot out.
Final price: £360 for strut and two bottles of LDS + £48 for labour. A bargain to keep my fabulous car on the road - and another C5 saved from the scrap yard!

Good to hear that you got it solved. Lets hope your machanic don't get drown in 2 litres of LDS. Enjoy your new audio set and don't worry about adding more amplifiers and speakers as they are independent from the suspension and engine wiring. I already upgraded the s**t alpine set and stock speaker in my C5 to a much better pioneer unit. The difference is night and day.

Update: suspension still holding up and the ride is fabulous. The right side is settling slightly lower than the left, though: is it possible to adjust this? Is this an anti-roll bar/height sensor switch issue?

Following my similar repair I found that for a few days the offside was lagging the nearside but it is all back to normal now.

Do as Steve says - it should settle down, but the left and right height correction are not separately adjustable.tontonjon wrote: 25 Nov 2017, 22:30 Update: suspension still holding up and the ride is fabulous. Re: C5 Mk 1 front suspension issue
That's good to know and what I had hoped. A new strut v one that has done over 115000 miles aren't going to perform in exactly the same way (or are they?!), so I shall wait and see if the new one settles as you suggest it might.
Thank you!
Thank you!
