Worth checking the current being fed to the heater. Just two main supply wires? Or more than one heating element? A clip-on ammeter will allow you to read these hefty currents: Sealey do a couple of these, one does 30-0-30amp, the other 75-0-75amp. Both on Amazon, and inexpensive.
They simply clip over the single cable to be measured - no need to cut into it.

Found this thread while continuing my research on Grand C4 Picasso. I know naathing about C4s, but as the heater element is obviously working on test, I did wonder if the problem is one of air distribution - the air coming out of the vents isn't going through the heater element. Does the heater blow hot air once the engine is hot?

Yes once the heater matrix is warm enough the air circles over that.

Sorry for the delay in updating the thread.

After a good few tests of starting the car from cold after it has been standing outside all night I can tell you that it always takes about 1 mile from the house before you notice that the air from the vents is starting to warm up.

Yes, once the heater matrix warms up the heater is good.

There are 5 wires that go to the heating element so it's anyone's guess how it actually works. Maybe only a proportion of it heats up depending on the temperature?

I think it's circuit diagram time. I'm sure somene will be able to post one.

Yes, I'll need the VIN to determine correct wiring diagrams - I think you did previously posted it for another matter, but then deleted it - PM it if you don't want to post it - unless it's the one that ends 896?

If as above - this probably won't be of much help, but:
c4 blower.png
5 Pin Black Connector: 8049 additional air con blower resistor

1: 8066 : control +CPT1
2: MC86B : earth mc86
3; 8067 : control +CPT2
4: MC86C : earth mc86
5: 8068 : control +CPT3

wire 8066 goes to Relay 3 protection switch unit A5
wire MC86B goes to (MC46 body earth point number 46)
wire 8067 goes to Relay 3 protection switch unit B5
wire MC86C goes to (MC46 body earth point number 46)
wire 8068 goes to Relay 3 protection switch unit C5

Also bear in mind your C4 is reported as not having air conditioning strangely enough!

8046 is for the blower motor resistor.
8050 is the blower motor (if separate)

Ahh of course, heating resistance, not blower motor resistor, I'll see what I can dig out, thanks Richard!

I posted a bit about the wiring earlier in the thread, but didn't have a chance to put a wiring diag up (not that it's any use anyway!)
RichardW wrote:Buck - I think the relay is integral; there are 5 wires to the unit: power, earth, 2 command wires, and one from the BSI I am not sure of! Yes, there appear to be fuses under the plastic cover over the battery.

Can't remember what the number for the heater was, but I recall it being in the middle of the diagram....

Well. looking again, I've now not lost the plot - there isn't anything else showing Richard! Following the diagram North from the previous, this is all there is under heating bearing in mind NO air con)
c4 blower 2.png
The component (8070) in the middle as you refer to Richard is only the Air inlet flap reduction motor!

The parts show an air heating resistance module, but some of the other heating modules are absent for this model - so the wiring diagram for the heating is more or less as per the 2 parts posted - only the BSI is above this - no other components related to the heater. The only other section is air conditioning - and as already said this model does not have it.

I can't see it Richard - so I've emailed both the 'Single Air Con' Wiring and the 'Auto Air Con' Wiring diagrams to you, as I can't see what you are referring to.

Here it is... This is not off VIN so may or may not be relevant!!
