Fan casings were different to mine Jim.
They had two extra radiators one very close to the fan assembly
and a lot of extra plumbing running through the front of the fan casings.
then the standard rad and then another behind that.
I have just one radiator and no radiator inside the fan casings.
so your casing might be a lot better for mine.
I'm going to strip my car down tomorrow and inspect the casings
I may be able to fibreglass them to repair them (I hope).
if not I'll see you soon Jim. [-o<
However I have two really good headlamps
A bumper (slightly Damaged) which doesn't come off like it says in the Haynes book of lies (what access panels at the sides)
And item No 3
I also have the plastic frame that holds the headlamps but it is damaged and needs repairing.
indicator lamps to oh and the fog lights all came to £40.

I am sure someone would love the strut tops, PM me and I'll send the contact details for the yard.
they had to move a lot of cars this am to get access to it.
but be quick they are gearing up to scrap her soon, they didn't even realise they had this xantia on the yard.
she is a V-reg 2ltr Hdi Hatchback in silver. I told them I would ring them if anyone had some interest.

Sorry about your prang Nigel.

For future reference peeps Spanish headlamps have a flat beam pattern, so no use in UK.

My dad borrowed Fred a month ago and reversed into a wall. Poor rear bumper. He's just put petrol in a diesel hire car. I'm not sure he should still be driving, defo getting forgetful.

The one I have Nigel, is ex V6 and they only have the two rads (A/C condenser and coolant rad) so that should be more compatible if you can't fix yours.......

Thanks Jim,
I found the one on the yard quite confusing when I got to the fans
I really didn't know what to do.
so I left the fans and casing there
so much plumbing terrifying if you don't know what your doing.
Sounds like your casing is the right one Jim.

regards.
Nigel.

My offspring put petrol in his C15 1.9 Diesel and he was only about 26 years old, good ole Dad had to go help pump it out with a spare squeezy bulb it took about 2 hours
and some very cramped hands.

I think some people make this mistake once be it at an early age or a later age.

Don't use glass fibre or ordinary body repair stuff, it's too stiff and doesn't adhere properly. You need the proper two part plastic repair glue for bumpers. If you put "plastic bumper repair" in to Ebay's search box (less the quotes) you'll see what comes up.

The type you want comes in a two part syringe which mixes equal amounts of hardener and adhesive. They tend to come in kits with mixer spatula and some mesh to add strength to the back of a bumper but for a radiator cowl you won't need this.

I've no experience of the ones which say "filler" in their description but I doubt they have the strength you need.

I did this for the first time in nearly 50 years last year. I went to our local Tescos and filled up the Xsara prior to a trip down to Somerset (to see the Dismaland experience). I picked up the nozzle I normally use and just about finished filling the nearly empty tank when I realised it was petrol! I phoned my brother to come with his fuel pump and empty jerry cans and then pushed the car to one side and waited for him to arrive.

We were able suck nearly all the liquid out, actually slightly more than the petrol I put in, plus some of the four or five litres of diesel that were in to start off with (the fuel warning light had been on). In total about 43 litres. I then completely filled up with diesel to flood what petrol remained and, long story short, set off about two hours later and in a lot more of a hurry than originally planned!

In my defence they had changed the pumps at Tescos since I had last been there and had put the diesel nozzle in the middle of the two petrol nozzles. What kind of sense does that make even for those who've never been there before? I mean, you would surely put it to one side or the other of the two petrol nozzles.

Two postscripts. I'm using the petrol diesel mix, further diluted with equal quantities of fresh petrol, in my situpon grass mower with no ill effects apart from a slight smokiness.

Secondly I'm glad it was the Xsara as the flexible tube on the pump was able to get right inside the tank to scavenge the mix out. I recently did the same thing to my 2003 C5 (filled it up before I knew it was going to be replaced - d'ohh!) and had to admit defeat with about a quarter of the tank left as there was some kind of plate in the way. Doubly so with the 2013 C5 as I can't even get a hose past the neck due to fuel misfiling device!

Paul,

I don't want to ramble on to much about running petrol in a diesel car but it is possible with a
Bosch fuel pump and no other make to run up to 10% petrol, so if you know what amount of petrol has been added
to a diesel car with a Bosch pump (only) NOTE A LUCAS/CAV PUMP WILL PROBABLY BE DAMAGED AS IT WONT LUBRICATE THE PUMP PROPERLY.
the cleaning out process is a little less strenuous.
I used to add 10% petrol to my veg oil in the winter time as veg oil has no antifreeze in it.
I don't do that anymore strictly diesel these days.
I stay away from Tescos fuel here because I don't get good mileage on it compared to Shell.

Surely that is applicable to the XUD engine only? The Xsara may be fifteen years old but it still had the high pressure HDi engine in it. Anyway it's done about another 10,000 miles since then. Petrol percentage will have been a lot less than 10%, probably nearer 3% - 4%.

Just to check I've just pulled out my 2015 receipts. I put 39.71 litres of petrol in, emptied it as best I could, and then put 43.67 litres of diesel to completely fill it up. The tank normally takes about 54 litres so possibly the ratio is nearer 10% than I first thought. Anyway, that's all in the past now.

From an Admin/Mod point of view, always happy to let threads ramble on as they can become very interesting indeed as a result ;)

I like the "It's Tesco's fault." surely the colour of the hoses is sufficient to warn which you're going for.

I got caught years ago on the Xantia 110 HDi - flaming Tesco again (it literally very nearly was flaming), when I used to use supermarket fuel - not anymore. They changed all the pumps / colours and I ended putting petrol in. My mech wondered how I hadn't exploded my way the 50 miles to his garage on half a tank of petrol and half diesel!! Suffice it to say, fuel pump failed a few weeks after draining the tank, requiring a new one!

I put petrol in my diesel Berlingo about 4 years and 55k ago. So far no ill effects.

I love Citroens colour coded warning of my *diesel* filler cap insert though... Image
