We have mentions of cases here where it lasted for nearly a year.

A year passes by so quickly these days. It's gotta last a couple. ... After that tapping I have great confidence.

I managed to pull the relay socket forward after disengaging it on its locating clip. The socket can be dismantled, and the female terminals pulled out of the front part.
Little screwdrivers help, because its clipped together in two parts; front and rear. The terminals themselves also clip in , with little protrusions, into the front half, and need to be disengaged. You only need to remove one.
The rear part of the socket just slides loosely over all the wires and plugs into the back of the front part.
I then rebuilt mine. It's fiddly, but possible.
I had a Lucas socket as a spare, but the usual brass lucas female spade connectors are slightly different from Citroen's spades, which won't fit in the Lucas socket. If you can't rebuild it your need another Citroen socket (available? - not on EBay to my knowledge) OR cut all the terminals and crimp on Lucas ones.

Replaced the atmospheric temperature sensor in N/S wing mirror, to give an accurate reading. Tried A/C and it now works, producing cool air.

So, to answers own question (above ), that temperature sensor does not stop the slow A/C fans running, but, if like mine it's reading minus 10 when really it's +16 C, it will stop the A/C cooling the air.

It's very easy, with decent crimping tool and wire strippers.
