oneday wrote:i,ll agree with you on that its just finding what is causing the problem. did you clean the maf. other things to check for is the intercooler leaking ie oil around the bottom of the cooler and is the map sensor ok

Yes there's a leak, but on the mot it says it's the injector (number 4), which has now been fixed with a new washer....I've not had a good look under it though, as I'm not good at lying under cars

I disconnected it last night and it was worse, it went better when connected, not great but better, you could feel a diffirence....the eml came on too, it went off earlier today. I take the maf's ok though, when it went worse disconncted or have I got it wrong

I checked the sticky for Lexia people....there's either Dhallworth in Glasgow or Xsantia colin in Falkirk....should I pm them if see if they could help

disconnecting the maf only proves it is still working to a degree. inside the maf barrel is 2 very fine wires these need to be clean to give the correct readings you can clean them with contact cleaner or brake cleaner or simular but dont touch the wires they snap very easily.

intercooler can be checked under the bonnet small rad on righthand side of main radiator with large hose at top and bottom if you look at the bottom of the fins they should be dry if wet with oil it is leaking and you will lose power and use more fuel also check intercooler hoses for leaks.

What kind of contact cleaner, I take it I cant use the likes of WD on it, or just use brake cleaner....how will I know when it's clean/ed

Ok thanks, will check it just shortly, the big hose at the top right I think's ok, I had a look at it the other day, but will check again, and the one at the bottom

not wd awfull stuf you can use brake cleaner that will clean it just aswell. spray it on the 2 wires untill all dirt is removed you will be able to see when they are clean.

if the cooler is leaking you will be able to tell in seconds oily at the bottom of the rad fins the hoses are easier if you get someone to rev the engine and listen for hissing noises as the turbo kicks in

You need to use a solvent based cleaner, such as any electrical contact cleaner or brake fluide. WD40 will make muck stick ... Even if the small elements inside the MAF look clean, its worth giving them a cleaning with the spray anyway.

I also spray air intake cleaner through, after the MAF in the intake pipework, on every service with our 110 C5. It makes a noticeable difference.

The intercooler leaking is not an unknown happening on the 2.0HDi 110 C5s. I've replaced one, an easy job and the car did feel a little more lively after, but not by a huge amount.

As said, the 2.0HDi 110 is no ball of fire but its enough. You can get a 90bhp model so you would hope the 110 is at least a little sprightly or there is no hope for the 90!

pull a vac pipe off and blow in it (without the car running) that should give you an idea of if there is a big leak or not, ,also as has been suggested a new MAF or at least try and clean the old one carefully.

Yep, thats leaking!

Still, I would try the other suggestions too, always a good idea to keep the MAF clean.

I knew it had a leak but because I looked at the mot's and saw a leaking injector, I thought it'd been leaking a while and didnt think to look there, bollox

The cheapest I can find so far is £130 (aep)

How easy/hard are they to fit

What'a caused it to leak or does it just happen

Y'know...this car's turning into a bloody money pit

The turbo will be fine, no need to drain any oil. Just undo the pipes at the top and botton of the intercooler - they are only air pipework. You'll need the undertray off to undo the bottom pipe, then there is some screws at the top, unto that, undo the plastic slam panel area and pull it out. Its a tight fit but it fits.
