Hi Steve, I have a kit en route so hopefully will arrive next couple of days. I also have a pair of anti roll bar links coming too but that's another story of course..

Re: Xantia 1.9TD diesel getting out.
I bought some leak offs like that for my 306, with the braided cloth outer which leaked like yours have, replaced them with fully rubber leak offs (possibly from the dealers, I can't remember?) and they're fine. I certainly wouldn't recommend the braided outer ones.
Xac you can reuse the star thing as I have done on two occasions, it just depends if you're ham fisted in removing it. The only reason I've done the mod is to try and ease the strain on the fuel pump, my 306 is a noticably loud engine, even for an xud9 - it's very loud, always has been since changing it from a Lucas to a Bosch pump for veg oil, and it doesn't seem to have a problem particularly. The engines volume reduced after the mod (once there's a bit of heat in the engine) suggesting that the load on the pump reduced. So I've done this on the xantia too, it's definitely no bad thing, but I was a bit dubious initially like you are Xac.

come on Steve keep upaerodynamica wrote: had to get kit off eBay so here's hoping it arrives soon.
you might find that braided hose from the top of the filter houseing is leaking through the braid, as the internal rubber perishes,
so it might not be the device in the bottom of the filter houseing and or the lid,

Re: Xantia 1.9TD diesel getting out.
I've experienced the "suddenly stops without warning, then restarts OK" syndrome - In my case, too much weight on the key ring caused the ignition key to rotate slightly!
I have successfully repaired an XUD fuel filter housing using Araldite Rapid. The problem is that the glass-filled nylon moulding becomes impregnated with diesel over time. The secret is to thoroughly de-grease the whole thing. I think I started with a soak in some old (mower) petrol, followed by a soak in a hot water heavily laced with Fairy Washing-Up Liquid (the Eco-friendly stuff we normally use for washing-up doesn't shift petroleum products), then several rinses in hot water followed by an overnight dry-off.
Araldite Rapid goes slightly soft when it gets hot but my broken-off filter outlet pipe stayed fixed for many months.

Re: Xantia 1.9TD diesel getting out.
Ok guys, it started and ran fairly well today so good news. I got in tonight to find the leakoff pipe kit had arrived so it's fitted!

new leakoff pipes fitted and the all important end cap! The old one was clearly in a bad way when removed. The braided fuel pipe out of the filter top was moveable so I removed the clip and fitted a jubilee clip - it's tight now so hopefully additional improvement.. The acid test will be tomorrow's journey.. I have a length of replacement hose for the braided hose but it's a 6mm inner diameter not 8mm as required. I might heat it a little and see if it'll go on but am aware of the potentially brittle pipe connection.
Thanks for all the advice folks
Graeme
