Ah; we call them semis as well - just not mispronunciated as in "See my trailer"...
The way we unload them, is to have a local tilt operator on call - it's about $50. He backs up, the car is rolled onto the tilt tray, then he drives forward and gently lets it off the tray onto the ground. Well, mostly gently. I've had one dropped about two feet on the nose.

An update and not a good one...
David and I have been mucked around by two transport companies now who have been full of promises, empty ones.
A few days after the original company gave up I was lucky (or so I thought) to find a local bloke going up north and offering a good deal.
All looked good right until an hour ago when he called to say the car he was taking north was being rejected by the purchaser and he was having to bring it back south. A likely story
David and I both believe he, and the others, have just simply got cold feet...
So, it's all somewhat in abeyance at the moment. David is looking from his end and may possibly have a lead.
It's looking increasingly likely that my plans to have this XM are likely to come to naught over the seemingly intractable problem of bringing the damm thing south.
Unless, that is, anyone happens to have a car trailer, a spare day or two and fancies a trip to Bonny Scotland and would not mind bringing back an XM!
I'm not a happy bunny at the moment.
The lesson I've learned from all of this is that Shiply, Uship and eBay along with the characters who proport to offer a car transportation service are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard
Long on promises and short on actually delivering them or the car...

Sorry to hear that Jim, and I agree that some transport people are quite useless.
We've got a couple of people that do our long transport - for our main chap, Andy, it would be too heavy for him, but our other chap, Chris, would do it and he likes a trip to Scotland. Trouble is though, he charges £1.25 a mile and then you're looking at about £500...
Give Shiply etc another go - you'll get it in the end!

Thanks Franklin, you are a good lad you know.. maybe if I took Tim Leech's suggestion on FaceBook and got a BX instead then that may work
Looking aroud the web it appears you can hire a self-drive car transporter with a 1500Kg capacity for £200 per weekend.
Now, if there was someone around these parts who also needed a car moving up noorf then an arrangement might be possible that would make it cheap for both of us...
Just a thought...
It might be the solution. Old and cynical as I am, if you want something done then there's only one person you can rely on to do it. Yourself.
Maybe a bit of self-drive is the answer. It could be a bloody fine adventure...

That would be Tim's suggestion!

Sorry to sound a tad negative Jim, but you'll still be overweight even with a payload of 1500KG!
XMs weigh 1550KG, and then you've got the weight of yourself, your straps and your fuel to add onto that too.
As you know, the consequences aren't pretty if the ministry catch up with you, and you'll be at risk on those major roads...

I only weigh a little.
In that case I'll just take the engine out at David's and transport it separately...
