I'm down to eight which I guess is a nice 'sensible' even-number Chris!
I still wonder whether I need to go to AA* meetings though but think
I've got it under control now. *Activaholics Anonymous

So that's 8x money pits? No surprise then when I wonder where my
finances go?

The red one IS a very nice example - it needs yet another set of genuine
Citroen locking wheel bolts expensively removed (if that is even feasibly
possible) as the front tyres have been driven on by the previous keeper
until they're cringeworthy licence losing threadbare. This is a right PITA
as it's a logistical and expensive lottery but something I will resolve when
I sort a couple of other jobs first.

My newest blue s2 still has one rear bolt locked without the key which the
garage admited has defeated them without damaging the wheel. Joy.

Not sure how I can see that working TBH - the alloy has a very small
diameter hole for the bolt that's very deeply recessed. Added to that
is the shallow head that requires the Citroen 4 pin unlock 'key' it easily
defeats the normal alloy bolt removal jobbies and I can see how it took
the last place I went to hours and cost me £'s (for x2!!).

The car just failed the tread on one wheel and I was stuffed so left it
at the MOT at their mercy and they did what they could and managed
x2 wheels. One rim didn't have a locking bolt fitted thank God so that
only leaves the remainder - their kit (or it's operator) gave in and they
weren't enthusiastic to do the last one - maybe it's on damned tight
- who knows as I can't tell either!!

That is a shame Andrew but no doubt a few hours with a decent mechanic or tyre fitter and your red car could have new tyres on and ready for the road?

Luckily mine has had its locking wheel bolts removed. That is something to look at when getting an Activa, whether it still has its locking bolts or not and if so how good are the tyres

I had forgotten about your stolen Activa briefly, just 8 then, thats not too bad!

I've been caught out now on x3 of mine already and the red one is yet another.
I did discover the key inside the spare wheel jack bag on one too which I was
rather relieved to discover.

That was a lucky find. So is it that your wheel nut keys are missing or broken?

When I bought my middle C5 I forgot to check it had a locking nut key when I bought it. Couldn't find it anywhere in the car either, luckily it was behind one of the alloy wheel centre caps, still on the bolt

What kind are they? the spline type or the pin-key type?

I fail to understand the difficulty as a reverse-flute socket will normally do the business..

It has for me in the past - unless they're extremely silly-tight...

Good factors even sell kits for this very job which are essentially a set of reverse-flutes...

It's been duly updated Chris. I got David's s1 green one mixed up
- of course there's still a s2 blue one in his household:

Had 37k miles on it when I got it in Dec 07, now on 53k.
Spec: Standard S2 Activa, blue, fabric seats, cd changer, air con, no sunroof. Immaculate.

Hi Jim, sorry I meant to reply to your post here and missed it.

I have a set of the reverse flute bolt removal sockets but they
can't grip the shallow head of the wheel bolt. They're the type
with x4 very slim hard pins standing proud about 4/5mm and I
can't imagine are going to be very tight as there'd be little chance
of getting mutch torque on them. Because they're recessed so
deep in a narrow well drilling the head off seems the last desperate
step unless I try differing garages or bolt extractors. I'll never use
any locking keys again after all the grief I've had with them
specifically on my Activae.

Can you not make a hardened bushing to centre a drill bit.

Now I've managed those very ones with a reverse flute Andrew, a small one that will go very tightly on the little projection...

You'd be amazed at how much torque, courtesy of a breaker bar, you can apply.

My reverse flutes are made by a yank outfit called Irwin and they've not failed me yet...

I've even managed to grasp the threaded portions of sheared bolts and extracted them using them.
