Its madness.
However, a 2.0 TCT Activa would use more than €170 worth of fuel than the 2.1 TD over a years motoring. If anything you would be better off with a 2.1 TD, even though you are paying more tax. The govt are getting this money regardless.

trust me .. the irish are like the british .. but twice as bad
you had blair the lair ... we had ahern the conman ...
we have this sidestepped answer on VRT (from FAQ):
http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vrt/faqs-vrt.html#section7
I thought VRT was illegal under EU law.
That is not the case.
Member States are entitled to charge national taxes provided that there is no discrimination against imported goods in favour of indigenous goods.
VRT is a national tax in Ireland and does not contravene EU law in that the VRT payable on the registration of an imported vehicle is equal to the amount of residual VRT contained in a similar vehicle already in the State.
-----------------------------------
BS .... what about secondhand cars that have paid their tax in another country?
And we can not claim back road tax on a car we no longer use:
10Q. Can I apply for a motor tax refund?
10A. Yes. You can apply for a refund on your motor tax if your vehicle has been:
* Scrapped or destroyed by an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF)
* Stolen and not been found
* Sent out of Ireland permanently, e.g. sold abroad
* Not used in a public place because you are absent from Ireland for business, educational reasons or with the Defence Forces.
* Not used in a public place because of owner illness or injury.
----------------------------------

I have both fogs and surrounds admit was another job on my list
For engines I'd vote for a 2.1td with bosch pump for veg use and easy tuning
Or the 3.0l V6 HDi unitlots of power!

2.1TD is worse for me for a road tax point of view ... and from what i've read and been told worse compared to the 2.0HDi .... the dealer did say that it might be easier to get a 2.1TD though.

looked at TWO 2.0hdi "110hp" cars that turned out to be 90hp ...
They always say it is the 110hp on the phone and when i get there, they act like i have no idea ....
I've decided to ask if they have the oil temp gauge on the bottom right of dash as a way of figuring out if it the right engine without them lying about it.
Is there a better way or am I right in thinking that all 110hp ones had teh extra gauge (if manual)?

Best way is the check under the bonnet. The 110 has an extra pipe alongside the air intake that goes to the intercooler.
Alternatively, look at the VIN. It will start VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Then 1 or 2 depending on if its a Hatch or Estate, then RHY or RHZ.
RHY = 90
RHZ = 110

sorry ... i meant questions i can ask them ... i can tell the difference, but if i ask them is it 90/110 ... is is always 110 ... i even asked about the extra pipe and was told "yes" ... after driving up ... i asked where it was and he pointed to the single pipe.Toby_HDi wrote:Best way is the check under the bonnet. If folk are serious about selling a car surely they can shake their asses and
either send you a picture of the engine or note a partial chassis number FFS!!
I suspect they know full well their 'limited facts' to draw you to see the car
hoping that you'll buy it anyway as you've travelled to see it.
With all this effort spent on what you've got, wouldn't the TCT have been
working by now?

I'm pretty sure my memory serves me correct when I recall that my HDi 110 did NOT have an oil temp gauge. So I don't think that is a reliable way of telling them apart.davoxx wrote:
