That is amazing Paul  No worries on size as it makes it a lot clearer to see the horrendous detail.

Must check mine as soon as possible especially as I know mine had a very bad heater matrix leak...

Did you manage to save and clean up the connector?

Having got somewhat interested in this subject now, has anyone a duff CD Player they'd like me to have a look at?

It'll have to be a Blaupunkt as I've not got the Clarion circuits or a car to test one on :(

You can have mine. It is still at the intermittant stage, it plays OK for about half an hour before it starts skipping.

I bought a replacement on ebay, I hope it is ok.

Brilliant :D I noticed on the circuit there are a few pots to adjust tracking so that'll be worth a look. Sounds heat related. Better get a can or two of freezer spray in stock...

Here's hoping the eBay replacement is a good 'un..

I bought a CDC-05 on ebay, and it didn't work, the CD cartridge was jammed, and after disentangling the half-loaded CD, it became obvious that the CD loading mechanism was not working very well at all.

I pulled it apart a little, and noticed that one of the rubber rollers that pulls the CD into the player had lost its drive gear, pulling apart a little further, I found the missing gear wedged in another part of the mechanism. Unfortunately I had to pull it apart even further to refit the wayward gear.

On reassembly, it did not work much better, and I realised that several gear trains and levers need to be aligned correctly while it is being assembled for the mechanism to work. After about 5 more attempts at assembly, I got it to the stage where it finds a CD in the cassette, and loads it ontpo the spindle, but it doesn't then wind the mechanism further to release the suspension mechanism and grip the CD against the spindle. I can't see what is wrong with it, probably just not aligned properly.

So having got bored with that, I bought a brand new CDC-03 on ebay, having read that it is compatible with the head in the Xantia. Unfortunately, the CDC-03 does not have a 13 pin connector, and comes with a set of adapters to plug into the back of the head unit.

Plugging the adapter into the Xantia head unit just proved that something was incompatible, as the controls on the front of the radio were all inoperative, and it was stuck at full volume, with no recognition that a CD changer was connected.

I disconnected the wires in the adapter that were connecting to the pins that go to the steering wheel controls, and it is a bit more hopeful, after rigging up a switched 12V, I can get it to recognise the CD changer, select a CD, and try to change tracks, but don't have any audio yet. I will play around some more tomorrow.

Xantia V6,

Thats interesting - have you tried connecting it up at the connection UNDER THE DRIVERS seat??? This is were the cable from the CD unit joins the harness that comes from the radio??

You may have more luck here..

I got the CDC-A03 working. The audio burst into life when the audio _ground_ lead was connected.

For the permanent installation, I decided to remake the adapter cables to connect to the connector under the seat. I will post details of the connections later.

You got the CDC A03 working xantia_v6 ?!

Was it the black or the silver one?

AFAIK my silver one has a different protocol to the black A03/A05

Yep 8) A black one, but I haven't seen anywhere that the silver ones use a different protocol.

The vendor has another on ebay item 140343162591. I don't know how many he has stashed away.

Ah! Mine is a silver one :)
Still I've got a CDC-A05 that needs plumbing in and fixing.
