Probably as well to steer clear of Arnold Clark

Re: Aw oh
When the ECU picks up a failure condition it will set the engine managment light as well as display Anti-Pollution Message and depending on the fault put the engine into limp mode.boristhespie wrote:So my C5 has been having problems with power. LAst Friday it seemed like awhole new car. It had great response, the power was there on tap. I had no idea why.
Today, again great but it couldn't last. I now I have an engine management light for injection system/ant polution system.Worried obviously given I can't get to garage due to work. All I know is that I have a car now that works really well, but has now got a light, instead of car which doesn;t work really well but has no light.
Any thoughts Myglaren?
If the the fault is / was only a glitch the next time you start the engine the engine will run fine there will be no error messages BUT the engine management light will stay on until three start and run cycles have been completed with no further failures, after which it should clear. Of course should there be another glitch the whole cycle starts again.

I really can't offer an opinion on what is going on there, sorry.
Mine failed the MOT last Friday. Headlamp unit broken was the assessment.
In actuality it is just the retaining clip for the bulb that I cleverly dropped into the bottom of the unit, along with the first bulb I tried to fit, so the bulb isn't properly retained and had come loose, so the headlamp won't adjust as it should.
Was quoted £135 for a unit plus fitting. Fortunately all it needs is the bumper off and the bits retrieving and fitting correctly this time. A good opportunity to fix the wayward screen washer at the same time.

mY head light just blew another bulb. it seems to go through bulbs very quickly. This one has lasted since end of May> I guess that's a voltage problem or something.
Would A bosch garage be able to help with decent diagnostics and possibly work. Thinking injectors like you? I found one tucked away in my own town. Have to phone them when I get the chance this weekend.

From what I have heard, it seems that the cheaper bulbs don't last very long. Mine seem to last about a year.boristhespie wrote:mY head light just blew another bulb. it seems to go through bulbs very quickly. This one has lasted since end of May> I guess that's a voltage problem or something.

They are on almost constantly - have them on automatic which pretty much equals permanent.
The Bosch diesel centre should certainly be able to analyse the fuel system and offer advice on repairs and be able to refurbish injectors, couldn't say what they might charge though, I don't expect that they will be cheap.

Sticking car down to bosch and hopefully they can plug it in to the computer. I'll get a print out and post it up here to get any thoughts.
The bulb thats gone cost me 8 quid. Hardly cheap. But How do you put your lights on auto?
Answer to the auto light question would be welcome however I created a new topic regarding the codes which were read today. You can find this here...

Fingers crossed for the Bosch center!
What make was the bulb? I have been recommended some Philips and Osram bulbs but the last one was just over the counter in the local motor factors. I think it was Osram but couldn't say definitively.
Was going to drop the bumper and sort mine out today but I fear that rain is imminent so scratch that.
To put the light on auto: Turn the key to it's first position - damnit, I have forgotten the rest, will have to get the handbook out of the car. I think that you push the interior lights button in the binnacle an, holding it turn on the sidelights, hold the button for fifteen seconds. I'll check when I get the handbook.

Can we make sure we're all talking about the same same thing when we say auto lights?
1) Where the lights come on with the "ignition" so that they are daylight running lights a la Volvo. This can be set using a Lexia and, by the sound of it, with some arcane button pushing.
2) The lights come on when it gets dark. This can be set and disengaged by pressing the button on the end of the indicator stalk in a certain manner and, probably, also with a Lexia. This is the type of auto lights my car has. The car needs to have a suitable light level sensor and I'm not sure all trim levels have it.

As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Mine are type 2 but pretty much emulate type 1 inasmuch as they are on most of the time, even in very bright sunlight, which I consider to be a good thing as drivers dazzled by low sun can see the light sources before they see the car coming towards them.Paul-R wrote:Can we make sure we're all talking about the same same thing when we say auto lights?

They only seem to go off if it is overcast but bright.
£100 to tighten the throttle cable is staggering - most places will do that without charge, especially if other work is being done at the same time.
Halfords are a bit pricey - I paid £13 for one there but that included fitting which was said to be almost impossible - took him half a minute!
The codes could well have been collected while the car was running badly and may now be a thing of the past now they have been cleared - hope so anyway.

That was the closing sequence of the show - this is the opening:
Peut Etra Toi (doesn't actually go into the song, just the intro. You may need to cover your ears.
She loves hydraulics, should drive a Citroen (she has a Cadillac).
The set was extremely elaborate and complex. I bought a 50" plasma TV to watch this (original DVD) on, could do to be bigger!
Sorry, you got me on my favourite subject there!
