She has a pair of vredestein winters on the front, the grip is amazing, keep her below 2500 revs and trundle about no problem, and downhill on snow or ice, 2nd or 1st gear and feet off everything and she trundles downhill with no drama. I’m running about 70% veg at 74p per litre just now. Two preheats and she starts ok from cold, but she needs the two. Idles a wee bit erratic until she heats up but then fine. I just wish she had heated seats, they are bloody freezing when you get in for a start lol

Once upon a time it was possible to get seat heaters for retrofitting... Might be worth looking into Davie... Or else, get some of those handwarmer gels and stuff them down your pants

How about a mains-powered block heater, Davie - Kenlowe Hotstart? - which would give you a warm engine and heater as soon as you get in. Assuming you can park the car in reach of mains...

I really hope I'm not working that day, as I had one of those for the Berlingo, and I'd really like one for the Ka, as even with it's leopardskin tat covers it's bloody freezing at 6am when I leave for work. So cold today I was tempted to use the Focus, with it's heated leather Recaros in.. but that would defeat the purpose of buying the Ka for winter commuting.

With Gabby not starting the other night and bigpug still not sorted due to the weather not being great up here to go lie under it I had lilpug in service on Saturday night at work. Its the first real running she has had since coming back from FortWilliam a couple of months ago and getting a new ignition pack fitted. She ran brilliantly, is actually a great thing to use for deliveries having a good turning circle, a good bit smaller and being auto! However its not going to be a regular occurance. Gabby started with jump leads and is home, but just been parked and ignored. Its the best day there has been her for weeks, would have been ok for getting under bigpug to reattach the dpf abs investigating the battery leads of Gabby, but unfortunately I have had a massive crash myself, unable to do anything. I just cant get everything to come together all at the same time.

Banff and Macduff plods, and/or my neighbours are being dickheads. Knock on door, Mr plod, the one who seized shauns mx5, at the door. Yes? I said. There has been a complaint that you are repairing cars on the street and there is one on axle stands on the street. Yes, its mine and I cant get weather to get onder it to put the dpf back on, and if I start it without it on you will nick me for it cos thats illegal. Plod says it needs to be i sured and taxed to be where it is. I say well you already know it is or you have nicked me. Plod says what other cars here are yours? Me the 407 on the street and the xantia in the drive. Plod who owns the bmw, And the red suzuki? Me I dont know (although it is the guy across the street who probably phoned plod) Who owns the black Mazda? I say you know that so why need to ask me? And it is insured and taxed and mot. Plod saw he was getting nowhere with me and said well as your car is street legal theres nothi g I can do about it being on ramps. Me, I know, goodbye and shut the door. Im seriously pissed off of plods just now.

Just keep your cool, Davie, and stay the right side of the law (as you do). The trick is to be smarter and more aware than they are, which I think you usually are.

So is it just Gabby's battery that's died then? If so that's poor and does not say much for expensive Halfrauds batteries...

I have no idea if the battery is ok or not Jim. I started it with the jump leads off lilpug, drove her home, two miles from cold and parked her up. Due to my crash Ive not been out to look, but once she was in the drive shut her off and she started again.

And as for where bigpug is sitting on ramps, it would be sitting in the exact same place on her wheels so its not as if its causing an obstruction! Every car here is legal, insured and taxed, and with a current mot, although the 107 would have a borderline legal tyre. Just because the (-expletive removed-) across the road has 2 bmw, 1 subaru and 1 suzuki swift and parking is at a premium. I only have one on the street, might park 4 on the street just to p him off a bit more lol

Sounds more to me like one of Gabby's battery leads or clamps is a bit iffy Davie... Carefully read the 'sticky' thread about them and the potential ramifications...

I did read the sticky about the battery leads yesterday. They are in line to be checked out. I will get someone to crank her over while I feel for heat in the cables and clamps.

Can be done single-handedly. If you crank her over for about 15-20 seconds, and she doesn't turn, or turns slowly, if you feel the battery connectors within half a minute or so, they should still feel warm of there's a fault there.

For once its like a summer day here, blue sky and sun, and ive actually flicked the heating off! However after doing far too much yesterday at the end of a crash I have to waste today. Sh1t happens.
