Brake job.
Start as you mean to go on? Thankfully things improved after initially shearing off all four disk retaining screws. Hand impact screwdriver is best chance on these but sadly none were co-operative!
Drilling and tapping for new bolts (see bag of 100 bought previously) will be another day's job.
Retaining springs levered off. I was going to call these "pad retainers" but they actually interface with caliper and caliper carrier only.
Rubber caps (where not missing!) pulled out then slide pins (7mm Allen) and caliper carrier bracket bolts (18mm hex) loosened. Bleed screw tapped with hammer to show I'm serious then tentatively loosened. 9mm hex. Turns out these are M8x1.25 (and so the M8x1.0 I've got are no use!)
Then repeat on t'other side

Ball joint and 1 of 4 mudflaps fitted
Not as many pictures of the ball joint "non- replacement" Surprisingly the ball joint connection (as supplied with the new wishbone) is bolted - last I encountered (probably on 306??) were big rivets that had to be ground off and only the replacement was bolted.
Ball joint stud is a 21 mm hex Nyloc. Possible to remove (I used offset ring spanner but offset not needed. No room for ratchet and socket due to CV joint.
Three bolts to wishbone, 18 mm hex. Again ring spanner rather than socket due to space. I was told you should have a minimum of 2 threads beyond a nut (to ensure full thread form of bolt within the nut) but whoever made/designed the wishbones didn't hear that one as the studs sit flush with nuts!
And then first of the new set of mudflaps popped into place. A good fit and retained by a single bolt! M8 in my case (as previously fixing mangled, so larger Rivnut fitted. Would have been M6)

Another busy Saturday Matt! Seems there's quite a lot of issues in getting the correct parts these days... Very annoying.
Even down to getting the correct distributor cap for an early AX... Friend ordered a Bosch one and got a Ducellier one instead... Happily, both mine have the latter so we did a deal...

Ahhh, I wonder if I ended up with 308 GTI wishbones!
From: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/top ... &t=1545240 review of the 308 GTiit gets more track (+11mm) and negative camber up front (-0.6deg to -1.7deg)

Yes it is annoying! I think there's more instances of "resellers" who just happen to be selling car parts and frankly haven't the first clue as to any specifics of what they sell is/does/fits.CitroJim wrote: 08 Mar 2026, 05:06 Another busy Saturday Matt! Hopefully a gentle Bend-optomy has done the trick.
Surprisingly the back surface of this (marketed as outdoor!) clock is cardboard

Interesting you should post that today Matt, only last night I was thinking about a formula to define when an analogue clock's minute hand lines up exactly with the hour hand at each of the 12 hours around the dial. Obviously you start at 12 O'clock then how many minutes past each hour do the hands line up again?
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I could work this out for you in a bit -mickthemaverick wrote: 08 Mar 2026, 14:06 Interesting you should post that today Matt, only last night I was thinking about a formula to define when an analogue clock's minute hand lines up exactly with the hour hand at each of the 12 hours around the dial. Short version would be 12:00 lines up, next alignment is 1:05 therefore 65 minutes per interval.
However, the short version is wrong! The hour hand is no longer at the 1: o'clock marker at five past the hour so the minute hand would still be behind.
It's more obvious by 6 o'clock, as the minute hand being at half past, the hour hand would be half way to 7.
Anyway, braving the weather (currently moving the humidity pointer well away from a potential clash!!) and see I can get 308 arch liner in place and car back on the ground, ready for tomorrow's commute

You don't have to work it out for me Matt, I've already done it but I just thought you might enjoy the exercise, it is quite fascinating!!

In summary: that cheap arch liner is rubbish! Very thin, holes serving no purpose and at least one fixing position with no hole. Some fixing holes don't appear to be quite in the correct places either, so a fight to get them in to place. Very thin and flexible, will see how it lasts but could see it tearing yo be honest.
Rear numberplate LEDs swapped (like for like at present they are cheap eBay ones I bought 10 of. In other applications they seem to be doing well (foot well lights and interior lights) but thinking about it other applications they'll not be lit for an hour or two at at time. Other hypothesis was the slamming down of the boot had done them in.
Last job I did my rain dance with bucket of soapy bubbles. Not actually raining as yet, though it has gone dark.

Did you check the dealer price for the wheel arch liner?
I had one disintegrate on a C5. Replacement from the dealer was £65 and the quality was excellent.

Good idea but, no I didn't! Surprised when it went for a recall, the mechanic's walkthrough pointed out the liner had cracked, but their speculative cost breakdown missed it. I didn't think about asking them (mostly given how extreme what they did price up for!myglaren wrote: 08 Mar 2026, 19:38 Did you check the dealer price for the wheel arch liner?

Ah well, I'll try and think on if/when this one gives up - thanks
