I spotted a lovely old Rolls Royce on the M4 near to Membury Services, eastbound. No photo, as I was driving, but I did remember the reg BYU 155.

Couple of motorbikes in Hawick Museum in Wilton Lodge Park alongside the river, part of the exhibitions telling the story of a couple of local motorcycle racers, Steve Hislop and Jimmie Guthrie before him.

Excellent spotting, the sales details here confirm that :-D Do the strombergs look obviously more stumpy but similar :?:
Original Sales Details
https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/sa0 ... n=1&pp=100
The car was converted to right-hand drive, the chassis reunited with the restored bodywork and the car was treated to a £7,500 respray. The rare original Surrey Top was reconditioned and painted and the interior was totally transformed with MX5 seats trimmed in two-tone leather, a new set of door cards, rear covers and carpets, reconditioned instruments in a Walnut dash and much more. The engine was completely rebuilt and fitted with SU carbs, the gearbox and overdrive were reconditioned and a new clutch fitted. As with any total restoration, it's the little things like clips and brackets and small chrome parts that take the time to source and fit but the TR was eventually finished. Our vendor believes his costs were in excess of £43,000 and it certainly shows. Since it was finished, according to the smart new white speedometer, the car has covered just 908 miles.
Spend £43,000 sell for £31,000, and only do 908 miles in it :-D, it's an expensive hobby not a business!

Regards Neil
This was probably done by the engine builder as the Strombergs originally on it would have been Smog Control ones and not European ones. Some builders just don't trust rubber diaphragms. Personally, I had no issues one way or the other.

Here is a screen shot from the Elan club about Strombergs and it recommends reading up on Burlen's carb information.

Strombergs appear on a surprising number of cars intended for Europe and the USA. However, there are many engine builders and enthusiasts on both sides of the Pond that don't like Strombergs and have changed them for a number of different carb setups, even fuel injection before it became easy to set up aftermarket stuff.

I wonder if that Triumph originally had the Lucas fuel injection system, many that did had them swapped off and replaced with twin carbs.

The Lucas Fuel injection system was too dirty for USA spec cars and it was easier to fit strangled emmission carbs.

When it worked it was pretty good but just a small amount of wear made it almost impossible to get back to a fit state of tune.

I remember working on a triple Dellorto carb TR6 that used to chew up it's rear diff mounts and spit them out. Now, that was a beast!

Definitely won't qualify for the Classic under 10k thread but an interesting history file made it worth posting here: :-D

Its a nice and original colour combination of Noir and Bleu Turquoise. This site needs a bit of navigating mostly French but its as comprehensive as it gets for colours, and upholstery and interior combinations for the DS/ID19 documented and illustrated across the years of production.
