Corrie it was and the character was Leonard Swindley who employed Emily Nugent in his drapers. The link of course being John le Mesurier - Dads Army-Arthur Lowe - Corrie!! 45 points forva good effort :-D

JLM was in 4 episodes of Pardon the Expression, so the Arthur Lowe link is superfluous :)

What's Pardon the Expression got to do with Corrie? :)

Pardon The Expression was a spin-off from Corrie.

"Pardon The Expression! is an ITV sitcom made by Granada Television, that was first broadcast from Wednesday 2 June 1965 to Monday 27 June 1966. The sitcom was one of four spin-offs from the highly popular soap opera Coronation Street."

Sorry, yes - Neil was right - Basil's voice (and the character of Dick Dastardly) was based on Thomas Terry Hoar Stevens. For most of his career, Basil's voice and puppetry was supplied by Ivan Owen who made sure he - quite literally - kept his head below the parapet as he didn't want to be known and didn't want to detract from Basil's fame

In my mind, any time anyone mentions either a Triumph Stag or a Jagwarrrr, it should be done so in the voice of Terry Thomas - it just seems so right pronounced that way
