Yes here in Finland we can install tow bars by ourselves. And for some years now you don't even have to go to MOT station after that. So it's possible to get that hidden tow bar under 300€ in here with ebay + diy -method. If one buys that same tow bar here in Finland and it's installed by pro, it costs nearly 1000€.

Well, we're both in EU, so one should think that rules are the same for all. In fact many rules regarding cars and mot are quite strict here (or at least so I thought). And btw, labour costs here are huge, if I go to "main stealer", one hours work costs around 80-100€.

Sadly, this isn't the case ... general rules are transferred to new member states, but most of the laws and regulations just need to be in accordance with something on the higher levels ... the fine print can of course be as complicated as quantum physics (and sadly there is a rare occurrence that we're ahead in some things than other older EU member states) ... the 3rd level work (highest complexity) hours in the Citroen Garage cost approx. 30€/hour ... just today I retrieved the car from the regular service interval, the total labor costs were 50€, for roughly 2-3 hours work on the car's filters, oil, etc ... the regular stuff ...

If I want to go into our craziness a bit more, we need to have a certificate for working with a chain saw ... driving a forklift ... for buying/using pesticides in the agriculture ... daily passes to pick mushrooms from the public forests ... need any more? ...

Labor costs are actually quite same when compared to salaries.

No need for certificate for chain saw here. And we have this thing called "everyman's right", so everyone is allowed to pick mushrooms and berries on everyones land - as long as you don't disturb land owner. So I can't go picking mushrooms on someones front lawn of course.

Otherwise we need certificates too. One quite crazy example is that you can't erect a ploughing stick on the roadside anymore without certificate for working on road area. And that certificate costs few hundred euros.
