But I doubt new Hard drive or CF card will help him, as it didnt to me with same issue. On other topic here it was written this is known fault with head unit as Flash chip on motherboard goes bad and only fix is new head unit. Which is what I did, today I got used NG4 from Poland, installed it and everything is back to normal and system works.

So Schlitti86 you might start looking for used units, I found mine on allegro.pl from seller France-Auto, for few euros they also code unit to your car, just send them what car you have and VIN on cash out.

That was the issue with RT6 units, never heard of this with NG4 system. That’s not to say there wasn’t some other issue, but very rare,

Most of the issues are people buying an incompatible CF card adapter, which means the head unit can’t see the CF card to install the operating system which mean you are stuck. Getting the correct CF card adapter and configuring the jumpers correctly is half the problem. It’s not really fair to say it won’t work for somebody else because you couldn’t get it to work. There are dozens of people that have fixed their NG4s this way.

Hi,
Thanks for this Guide.
I swapped the HD with the CF and reassembled everything. Is IT possible to send me a link for the Update?
Have a nice sunday

Resetting the unit won't make any difference, the system is overheating as the message says and it's designed to do this. First it usually reduces the volume to reduce some heat from the internal amplifier and if it still is too hot, the system will shut down for a while.

Nothing you can do about it in a hot country like Bangkok

Dear Marc,

What are your thoughts of using SD card instead of CF with an SD to IDE adaptor?

I can't see a problem with the correct SD card to IDE adapter, just make sure it is at least 40Gb in size.

Let us know how you get on please.

I have finally got this upgrade going. I've bought two different CF cards and two CF-2-IDE adapters - one with two slots for master/slave, the other one with single slot and jumper for M/S setting. And managed to fail with all of them :-D

I found out that both CF-2-IDE adapters are not working in Slave mode in neither the car nor in Windows (while using IDE-2-USB adapter).
This is how you get the 67% update fail and the 0x3019 error + no partitions created on the empty CF card.

Does anyone have a clue why the adapters would no work in Slave mode?

I wonder if they have to detect a Master drive before they will allow Slave mode to work?

It can be down to the adapter card type you have, but the CF card must be configured to Slave as the DVD drive is the master.

I tested the two slot adapter with both cards in. Only one of them showed up.
Also not working in the NG4, where a Master already exists.

My adapters are those two:

I would add that although the second one is 2.5" proper size, it lacks the side mounting holes, so it does not work straight away with the NG4 tray.
Just in case anyone considers it.

So you have the jumper in position 2-3 Slave / Master?
