Just out of curiosity with regards to your 107's oil usage, do you have a note of the emission test results from the MOT? Most obviously the HC ppm/vol figure for the fast idle test.

Mine (which doesn't use a drop between services) showed a figure of 4 for that test and 0.002% vol for CO, and Lambda value of 1.020.

If your HC reading isn't much higher, I wonder if that would point more towards the oil consumption being due to top end (eg valve stem oil seal) wear rather than the bores, as it would only really be drawn in on startup or most obviously usually when you come off the throttle.

Mate of mine had a Jag which used to produce an almost embarrassingly large blue cloud when started from cold due to valve stem wear, but it never actually seemed to affect the emission test as it ran perfectly clean from about 20 seconds onwards.

I dont think i kept that bit of paper. Its certainly not with the MOT. We have thought that it may be the top end, but have decided not to investigate it, just keep topping it up. If it goes bang then it will get a replacement engine.

Zel, that's a good point. My 207 uses a bit of oil but emissions results were so low as to be virtually negligible...

I was thinking that may have given a clue and in theory it should...

Jim, if it's worth anything I know that the 306 I had also used to smoke like a two stroke for the first couple of seconds, but doing a compression test have perfect results by the book and it never had issues at the emissions test (only problem was trying to get enough heat into the cheap aftermarket cat, at which point everything always jumped straight into the green).

Believe that was basically the same engine as your 206, albeit in 1.6 form and with a different head. Was on around 110K if I remember right.

Well that's me well overdue, good job I don't need to be taxed! :-D

I did get an invite from my Doctors' a few weeks ago, so when I meant for my pre-hols jabs, i thought I'd take advantage of being there to make an appointment. Unfortunately, the nurse that does these check-ups doesn't start 'til 9:15 which meant it was unlikely i'd be in work before 10:00. When i told my manager, she asked me I had to fill in a form AND log it on a spreadsheet, so I told her not to bother & that I'd cancel the appointment, as it was all too much trouble. That is the way now, make everything so difficult, no one bothers; how my colleagues who seem to have at least one medical appointment most months cope I can't imagine. Maybe some time next year I can tack an extra day onto a period of leave & make an appointment for then but, more likely, it'll have to wait 'til I retire (assuming that's before I'm 75 of course) [-o<

Van, very important to go for your MOT... It can identify hidden issues that can have bad outcomes later... My first one certainly did... I was unwittingly at very hight risk of a heart attack..

So please, do go as son as you can...

That's not good Steve :( It's at this time of our lives we need to really start looking after ourselves again... I look after myself like a baby and it shows..

And no, that doesn't mean I'm back in nappies and living on milk

But I do have to visit the baby aisle when shopping to stock up on Vaseline as I get through loads of it in looking after my skin...

Seriously, beyond 50 we old boys really need to take great care of ourselves...

'Beyond 50' ... 'old boys'... did you not read that 80 is the new 50 these days. So at our 'advanced' age we've barely started on the road to old age! Get a grip man [emoji3]

Yes, and I'm happy to read there's many in their 80s still doing marathons competitively :D

Thing is, if we all want to enjoy our 80s in good health now is the time for us approaching our 60s (which I am rapidly) to start caring for ourselves ;)

It's in 20 years time we'll really notice the difference...

So, go get your running shoes on and get that gym membership sorted out....
