Still, I did do one job today and that was to fit the Iridium tipped spark plugs into the XM. A noticeable improvement, not huge but an improvement so every little thing now seems to be bringing some benefit...

An old pal and I attended a retirement 'do' this lunchtime and I took him to the venue in the XM. he was most impressed and enjoyed the cruise. His comment was that it even smelt proper

Now the oxygen sensor is doing it's job properly there's no doubt gas mileage is better; I'll get a better idea of just how when XM and I travel to Aberystwyth next Friday...

Have you tired using drive up ramps Jim? I have a set and find them very useful for jobs such as exhausts and changing sphere's, mind you I will admit that a two post lift such as the one I saw my C5 on earlier this week is much better, heaven knows how it got up there

That's a good thought Richard but I hate driving up the ones I have. What I really need is ones with much longer and shallower run-ups.

Or else, do as has been suggested in the past and dig a pit

We have a few different types. Some quite tall wooden ones which are best used when there is someone to watch you drive up. Some lower and longer metal ones with a stop plate at the back so idea for use if I'm on my own. We also have ones which wind up and down, ideal for a Citroen on low suspension. Unless I need access to the wheels or suspension, I always put the cars up rams, its quite a bit easier

Jim the blue ramps I had (which you may now have) have got holes in them to fix them to the ground and stop them slipping.
Mark the holes, drill and use bolts just dropped in.

If you're driving up ramps with the driven wheels they very rarely slip and even if they do its only an inch so front end up on a Citroen is no problem whatsoever.

I don't actually Jim, Ill have a look at them later and see if I can see a make. At a guess they look quite old, probably outdate the design of an XM

They have been useful in the past when a broken Citroen has been unable to lift up from low. Even in normal the longish overhangs on the front of Citroens do not usually allow them to be driven up ramps.

Driving up ramsp is find, as the ramp is being pulled under the wheels. However reversing up them can be interesting if you have no one there to hold the ramps in place. That idea of securing them to the floor when in use sounds a good one.

A 4 post lift could well be the end to your parking 3 cars problem
