That fast are you Davie? We'll have to have a racedaviemck2006 wrote:That's no problem. You won't catch me on a bike though lolFake Concern wrote:Sorry Davie for talking about cycling on your thread!
I quite fancy a try of a 'fixie' myself and I spend most of my time in only a few of the higher gears unless the hill is a really decent one... I often play a game of getting into top gear as soon as possible going to/home from work and seeing how long I can stay there without changing down...Fake Concern wrote:I have an even older fixed wheel Roberts with full (Blumels) guards on, but I'm not currently fit enough for some of the hills and also as I don't only use it, I keep forgetting I can't freewheel, which can be interesting*
Not having a freewheel would take a bit of getting used to though...
Yes, those 'ass-savers' you've tried are not much use. I find they don't really fit and at best keep your saddle bag dry!
RaceBaldes are a good compromise and easy to pop off when no longer needed, just chop a few cable ties and job done...
They are very light too...
I'd not be without them now...

Knowing what you get up to in the gym you'd see me off easily! Now it may be a bit different over say, 40 miles as I'm endurance rather than a sprinter...mickeymoon wrote:I'll race you. No more than 10 miles though..CitroJim wrote:

Fixed wheels are good exercise because you can't rest.

Re: Davie's french attraction.
Indeed! You must keep pedalling... I really must try one before too long... I expect initially it's a bit like riding with clipless pedals and cleats in that if you don't keep your wits about you in the early days here's a good chance you'll end up in a whole world of paindemag wrote:Fixed wheels are good exercise because you can't rest.
Speaking of clipless pedals and cleats, I've now got so used to them on my road bikes that when I ride my mountain bike with ordinary pedals I still twist my ankles to 'release' myself from the pedals as it's become such an automatic and unconscious action!

Re: Davie's french attraction.
Need an update on the cars. The xantia had a slow puncture on a front tyre. There's only 2mm of tread left so it needs 2 tyres. It's still the tyres that came with the wheels , I can't even remember the make. The rear tyres still have good treat although they are budgets. My wolfrace wheels have 4 great tyres on them so I can't decide to use two of them onto the resolfens, buy two tyres, or stick the wolfrace on again. It's highly likely that is what I shall do for just now, money a bit short as I am not working again so that's the free option. It gives me the safest option too. I could put on the standard 15's but they really could be doing with two tyres also. All the tyres have decent treat on them but I took them off due to two elderly Pirelli being perished and two new nexens being crap! So wolfrace it will be then. I filled it with fuel, I don't work out the mpg on it, I don't care what that would be.But it did 273 miles and took £65 @ 1.22 per litre to fill it so if anyone wants to work that out feel free. The heater fan Jim supplied only works intermittently, have to find a speed bump kind of thing to drive over at speed to start it lol. I still love driving it though.
The big surprise is my £700 Seat Leon. I did think it would be a reasonable but nothing special car. It is a top of the range trim with all the goodies which all work. I've just done a fuel work out on it and it returned 68.4 mpg! Very Impressed with that. More impressive is the fact that the seats are not solid like German ones, they are very comfortable. The driving position for me is great, better than the activa. It's roomier too despite being a size class lower. It also had a good turn of speed when required. I actually wonder if it has been remapped going by its power and economy. For what I paid for it with 11 months test it's looking as if it's a good buy. Better than the xantia? At the risk of being thrown off this forum I'm afraid I have to say ye,,,,,,,ok maybe lol

Re: Davie's french attraction.
Davie, I'll wager the fan problem will be a need to do the relay mod and not a problem with the fan itself. See if you can make it intermittent by jiggling the ignition switch
