Good work Neil :)

The 'Xantia' is in fact a Pug 605, the 'Big Pug Estate' is a DS Safari Rally car and the little white one is a new-style C1..

You are correct with the CX and SM :)

'Impossibles' are indeed remotes for the telly and the Catch-Up box...

Bit of careless lack of attention to detail from me there Jim.....I just assumed one of them would be a Xantia and none of the others were that close :-D

Don't say your Xantias have been relegated to the smallest room or put in a cardboard box somewhere :-D

Oh gosh no! Not likely...

My Xantia has pride of place, along with my Pug 205GTi and my favourite H Van :)

The CD visible in the picture is very modern but truly excellent :D I found it in the Pixo and simply love it... I shall always be in debt to Sian for leaving that CD behind!

Mumford and Sons! Would you believe they have already had a mention on POTD, and have also had the honour of appearing at the Pickled Egg! Via a performance they did at St Magnus Cathedral Kirkwall Orkney! POTD and the Pickled Egg in perfect harmony-just how I like it!

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=53436&p=554031&hili ... al#p554013

This was the performance selected for their audition at the PE

Excellent :) I was so keen to listen to it I searched it out in the PE Jukebox... Not easy to find now in such an active thread... I did it by date in the end with reference to the earlier mention in POTD...

Here it is: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50203&start=1425

The search was well worth it :D

Picture(s) of the day..SIMCA van

Unread post by NewcastleFalcon »

This sprang out from the pages of Wiki, when I was looking up the SIMCA 1100 LX subject of another thread.

Yes and it made its way to New Zealand and helped with the start-up of Canterbury Cheesemongers
We began selling cheese from the back of a French Simca van at the Christchurch Arts Centre and Riccarton markets in 2000. It started as a part time venture, and we stored and matured cheese in a large shipping container parked in our back garden. In 2002 we opened our first shop and bakery on Salisbury St. This was demolished following the September 2010 earthquake and we re-opened, four months later, in premises located in the Arts Centre, central Christchurch.

Never knew there was a van version... I never saw one as I recall in the UK but saw loads of the saloons... At one time they were ubiquitous... Until they dissolved...

Its easy to join in on picture of the day. No need to agonise on whether its good enough or interesting enough. There's interest in everything in my book.

So rather than not take part, join in.

Here's an example. Came across it via Geograph's own "image of the day". Not the exact image for today...that was an image of a substantial wall made out of granite enclosing the catchment area for a water company.

This is roughly the same area and a reservoir which supplies water for a major connurbation

but where is it? any ideas? Nothing hidden not difficult, but take pleasure in the finding out

Rewinding to Jim's pic, with guitar centre stage

I think many of us pleasure guitar players would love to pick up our instruments and produce a sound like this from our guitar and a practice amp. This is absolutely gorgeous hope you enjoy it too.

That is truly magical Neil :)

I wish... I've tried and tried to make some nice noises with mine and once got fairly OK playing Shadows stuff but never magical like that...

Actually.. Thinking on, I'm currently sidelined with a bad knee injury that's crippled me to all intents and purposes... I can barely walk at the moment so now might be a bloody good time to get the old guitar back in tune, the amp warmed up and doing a bit of practising...

If nothing else, it'll stop me going stir-crazy from not being able to run, swim, cycle or spanner cars until the knee is sorted out...

I'm on pain of death from many friends and family to do NOTHING until it is...

That's very difficult for me...

My Strat is a '62 reissue painted in Lake Placid Blue...

All coloured vintage Strats were painted in automotive cellulose originally as it was freely available, cheap and easy to apply and gave an excellent finish... Also the underlying timber did not have to be cosmetically perfect... That which was got used for those with the 'sunburst' finish...

Hank Marvin's signature Strat and indeed one of Mark Knopfler's were in Candy Apple Red..

Candy Apple Red was a Ford colour and Lake Placid Blue a GM colour and appeared on many a Chevvy and Chrysler in the 50s and 60s..

POTD does it again Jim...love your additional stuff about the Strat...co-incidentally I have just watched a couple of Mark Knopfler vids interviews where he's talking and playing, and out from the case pops his gleaming 1961 red strat!

Excelllent stuff Jim :-D

And I'm just listening to perhaps my favourite Album of his on my Cossor Radiogram Neil - Love Over Gold :)

Always loved that album... Especially Side 1 with Telegraph Road and Private Investigations on it...

Sounds bloody excellent on the old 'Gram...

Ken Bruce played Private Investigations on R2 this morning :)

Yes there was a nice white Matra Rancho in the Auction at Kings Lynn I went to back in June last year.

Today's subject of the day for me has been the Renault Clio as Classics Spotting and Pickled Egg Jukebox will testify.

So why not POTD as well.

Not sure why Renault Plumped for Clio as a name, but there is a famous sculpture by Carlo Franzoni in the US Capitol in Washington DC entitled "Clio Car of History"
