Did you know that Mellifera is Latin for Honey-Bearing, or Honey Carrying.

That is why this little lot are called Apis Mellifera ie Honey Bees, and specially for M-Day they put on this bit of swarming by the roadside as I happened to walk past with the camera.

When did you see your last swarm...probably over 5 years ago for me, and never until this morning on the ground.

I did see one bee today, but no more. No butterflies or goats either.
The last swarm was in my house, or at least the attic, used to be one most years, bees or starlings.
There was also a bee 'hive' in the cavity wall around my garden door.

Only ants living there now (Myror)

How about a mayfly (picture taken several years ago)? It liked the colour of my T-shirt;

Of course if you can't stand the Mandolin then you will shed no tears that the Pickled Egg Jukebox 10 of the best Mandolin Tracks selection, is now gathering dust in the archives.

But on M-Day another chance to revisit it. The ten selections flow from here...
link viewtopic.php?p=734562&hilit=mandolin#p734562

One of my most memorable Joni Mitchell favourites starts with.
"I went to Staten Island to buy myself a mandolin, and saw the long white dress of love on a store-front mannequin..." and Song for Sharon sets off on its 8 minutes 40 journey of poetic imagery, and a relentless flow. Not that the mandolin itself gets an airing on the track or the album.

And this is where Joni would have bought her mandolin from...where else Mandolin Brothers, Staten Island.

Anyone care to respond to a quickfire M-Day original photo Quest....

10 points for an original photo of any of these everyday items, there could be more I'll stick at these. I would like to see a Mayfair at least...and I am fairly certain Chez Falcon cannot supply one. :-D

a) a Jar of Marmite
b) a jar of Marmalade
c) a Can or Bottle of Drink beginning with M, beer, pop, squash, spirits, sherry, wine etc.
d) Mayfair Title Deed from the Popular Board Game Monopoly
e) an M tile from the popular game Scrabble

I really fancy a bit of marmalade now Mick, after seeing that! I used to make my own a few years ago when Seville Oranges were in season... It used to knock spots off anything commercially available...

That's an excellent quick effort Mick. The items on my list I must have set on the basis of them all being difficult to find in the Falcon house. Only ever have toast and marmalade, when I am pigging myself after a hotel breakfast of both the continental "Buffet" and cooked varieties followed, with the obligatory session at the communal toaster. I have a phase of Marmite, and its currently out of phase, the scrabble and the monopoly have gone to pastures new, while still being in the family, my only hope is the beer!

and yes you have been a heavy points scorer there Mick, but am happy with self-assessment in the general spirit of the task and its inherent silliness :-D
