Well mysteriously but happily the tickover has settled at 950rpm. The wipers were getting a bit iffy but I think it is actually the arms that are losing their springiness (?) Parts like that are very hard to obtain now so I had a brainwave and looked for Dispatch arms on the bay of E. Most prices for used ones are stupid, anywhere up to £40 each until I found a scrapyard in Scotland listing two arms at £10 each and judging by the pictures in good condition. I ordered the driver side for a tenner and when it arrived today it was the passenger side! :lol: My fault, I ordered the wrong one, however it was in really nice condition and I have now ordered the other one to go with it. :roll: Other than that I just have to fix this annoying left pull on the steering, now the weather appears to be improving I'll hopefully get the pads out for a check and clean.

Do both driveshafts rotate smoothly?

Had a slight pull to one side on one of my Metros when a CV joint (inner) was starting to fail, it was causing drag on that wheel and made the car pull to that side.

Never realised the two were connected until I changed the noisy CV joint and suddenly my pull to the right vanished, suddenly my brain managed to join the dots at that point.

Never claimed to be smart...If I was I wouldn't have sold it six months later!

So today in my pursuit of happiness I removed the nearside front wheel and calliper. I found the inside pad stuck so stripped it all and cleaned everything but alas it still pulled left.
Last week I bought some new wipers from the bay. Best quality expensive ones, £7.99 for three [emoji23]. Upon fitting them they didn't make very good contact with the screen. I think the old arms were tired so bought a couple of nice ones from a breaker in Scotland. Then i couldn't get them off so ordered a wiper arm puller, also from the bay. What a cracking little tool, only 6 quid but it made the job so easy and now the wipers clear the screen.

Need to get me one of them for the Lada - I'll be wanting to re-paint the arms at some point in the future, and we all know that if I don't have the tool that they won't come off.

...If I do they will pull straight off once the nut is off!

On the plus side, at least having a nut holding them on means they can't cling themselves off into the nearest field like the front wiper did on our Fiat Panda one day!

The fast tickover syndrome was back today but the ambient has only been 9c with a very cool brisk breeze. Also I've only done a few short journeys about 5 miles max although the temperature gauge was up to 70+. I'll see what happens when the weather warms up again. I'm surprised it is so susceptible to ambient temperature change.

When you have, I suggest you check the coolant temperature sensor is giving the correct readings as this controls - to an extent - the imposition of the fast idle condition...

I know what you mean about being a repository for old laptops Dave... I have a lifetime supply here now thanks to the kids upgrading...

As long as they run Ubuntu OK they're good enough for me...

I assume it will only install on Windows? I have an old Compaq with XP on.

Yes Dave. That should be ideal.

Needs to be a 32-bit version of Windows as well I believe.

Don't have it here, so I can't test installing it via Wine - but it needs "real mode" for want of the correct term which is currently escaping me - access to the USB interface so I doubt that would work to be honest.

Yes I've done cranes, robots conveyors etc. But they all followed the rule of logic, this just does its own thing. And why have I got 6 CD's when everything seems to be on just one?
