NMP = I use that a lot, along with SEP - Someone Else's Problem...

Davie, I hope you're all well on the mend now and soon fighting fit again :)

Not sure how I avoided a massive crash between Christmas and new year to tell you the truth...

Maybe it's still to come...

So you can't transfer the tax when you buy a vehicle...and you can't re-tax a vehicle that's been SORN'd in the last 5 days? So how precisely are you meant to legally drive the thing? System seems to get more stupid with each passing day.

Just for future reference - here's what TFR or similarly concentrated detergents do to non-clearcoated paintwork...The car in these photos is bone dry.

On this occasion I had specifically asked for it not to be used - guy I spoke to nodded that he understood...so his mate came over and sprayed it everywhere the moment I turned my back for five seconds! Suffice to say, I was fizzing.

As was your paintwork, so it would seem. What did you say (or would the swear filter detonate under the load)?

Something about there having been a very simple - and clearly explained - reason that I had told them not to use TFR. Suffice to say, I won't be going back there again. Still looking for a decent hand car wash around here - one I've used for the last near ten years is in Aberdeen, so kinda a long trek from MK!

Car was due a polish and wax soon anyhow...still highly annoying though!

I find that really odd as I've had a different experience taxing a new vehicle online. I have a feeling the software that runs it is a work in progress and it may be a year or two before its all plain sailing.

Shocking what TFR does Zel  I'd hate to see what it would do to a lacquer-peeling Xantia!!!

Yes, a lot of government software is a work in progress... Often they say 'BETA' and that says it all... I recently used a service to tell all government departments of dad's passing at once... That was clearly BETA and I was even told it's a very new service so may not be 100%...

To be honest Jim, not very much is likely the answer!

It just looks fantastically dramatic on a non-clearcoat car because it so rapidly strips ALL the wax and everything off. Saab - which has very good quality paint - came out looking exactly the same the first time I discovered this downside to TFR. Lada so far has dodged it...knowing how fantastic Lada paintwork is, it'd probably dissolve altogether if I went near it with the stuff!

Does vinegar have the same effect? I discovered by accident that neat vinegar applied locally does a far better job than traffic remover on ground in stuff on modern water based paints. It took all the road tar off the Scenics headlamps so I tried it on the body too, post jet wash, and the results were great. Not repeated it as I'm sure the acid does the paint no good, but as a one off on a new purchase it does the job of TFR and a mild cut prity well.

I have heard of a case (although I cannot confirm it) where somebody was introduced to T-Cut (I think the paintwork was very faded). It did a great job of bringing back the colour. Unfortunately nobody explained to them that T-Cut was something that should only be used sparingly. They used it every time they cleaned the car (every month or so). Eventually they started seeing a different colour show through (hello undercoat). That did upset them somewhat.

The first time I ever used t-cut when I was young and green I tried taking a mark off and then wondered why the mark was getting bigger and why I had a huge funny coloured bit on the paint lol

Feeling a bit better now so went out for a run in the seat. First proper drive of it. It's actually a nice drive, not so hard suspension as expected and comfy seats, despite their German parentage. Showing 65 mpg on the trip computer for a 40 mile run. Nice to have a working cruise control after a few years without one. It's a well equipped car, drives well, comfortable and quiet. If it's cheap to run and reliable it will do for a while.

For the £150 it cost me more than I got for the micra it has to be a better car! I'm always on tapatalk, never see any signatures on it. Probably been auto correct on the phone that changed tct to txt without me noticing. The activa must know that I'm addicted to txting [emoji23]
