These were a few pics from this job.. but just now I moved them into a 'collection' and made that shared.. not sure if they were like this before.. may explain why most of them were not visible in the posts...

Yes John all pictures now visible. Really impressed what you have done with this motor. Don't think I would be inclined to do this at my age. Well done mate.

ok .. at some point soon chaps , mainly bobins (I bet you wish you hadn't posted now :) ) I may beg a drive in your car, or a swap ..
as something seems very wrong with mine.. I alluded to it during the long saga .. it makes me a bit seasick, very nervous, and is not right... the back end jolts from side to side.. I think the wheels are leaning in back there..

I may start a new post for this.. I will try and take some pics soon

You're more than welcome to take mine out for a decent run..... but it's on steel springs so you might not learn much ! The offer still stands though :)

Well I've only just caught up on this thread. It's a lovely looking car John. That engine compartment looks mighty cramped I can see breaking that pipe would be very easy, you did well to notice it. Looking at the pics, the one of the bellhousing. Did you say that was atf in there and not engine oil? if so then it wants changing, it should be cherry red, that could also have a bearing on your mpg. It's usually a gradual process as the majority is held in the torque converter. it's a matter of drain some, top it up, go for a run, drain some more top it up etc etc. Eventually it will clean up, apologies if this is already known :?

'96 XM 2.5TD VSX.......Sadly sold. What an idiot! I should have held on to that.

thanks SF and Demag

yes she does look good :) I think white is a good colour, never had a white car before..

Re the oil.. when I saw it, it was black, but the background colour was red.. and it made sense being in the BH I think as the torque converter must have let some out.. saying that, the TC would have been attached to flywheel at that point, so I am guessing the oil must have been transferred to the gearbox input shaft? .. and when box removed oil leaked from there? I didn't really see any evidence of the crank seal leaking either..
I do want to change it, asap.. just waiting for a payday :)

mpg wise I don't know.. I have set the car as metric, and it seems not a million miles away from the HDi 8v it replaced.. generally 6-10l per 100km.. its my first half a tank and I am just doing normal country lane commuting, but being very gentle with throttle.. I think I will end up around 300km, so average 10l per 100 .. more than the manual 8v but maybe not hideous..
saying that, some quick maths puts that at less them 30 MPG...
