I find the 406 a distinctly soggy drive.. A bit like driving an old over-stuffed sofa...

Shame as in all other respects it's an excellent car..

I do like my suspension to be compliant but tight.... Exactly as an Activa is... That car, for me, has the perfect suspension... Normal Xantia not far behind though...

Have you driven a 406 coupe Jim? Since having a look round one I've become rather taken with them. Not sure I'd want one but it seemed rather nice to me. I didn't drive it though as it had lots of toothpaste in the oil so I walked away before even starting the engine. Was a terrible shame, I've not seen one as cheap since and it was local.

That's quite interesting. Jon's shunned that Activa on eBay for a 406 v6 coupe. Poor misinformed soul.

I can catagorically state a well sorted activa is a more rewarding car to drive than a 407 coupe. The 407 is probably faster in a straight line but does not like being hustled into corners, where the activa excells. Its not quite so smooth a ride either, although its good for a car with curly bits on the axles. The 407 is significantly larger and heavier than a xantia though and best looked at as a grand tourer, and not a sporty coupe.

Yesterday spotted a deep red Pug 509 I *think* heading down towards the train station in Bletchley - didn't get a great look as I was too busy dealing with a taxi driver who had decided I was invisible.

Today, just over 200 miles driven on a lovely day to have a classic out...And absolutely nothing of interest spotted, French or otherwise.

I beg to differ Jim, certainly in my neck of the woods. With the emerging spring sunshine and dry salt free roads ive seen so far this week an S1 Lotus Esprit, a 505 GTi pug, an XR2i, a Escort Mexico, Celica GT4, Nissan 300ZX, an Austin 7, an MG Maestro and a Morris Ital van.

Its been an interesting week out and about.

Went shopping to Waitrose yesterday and I was almost embarrassed to take Gabriel there. The car park looked more like a prestige new car showroom! The next oldest car after Gabriel was a 66 plate

I jest but it gives a taste of the environment around here... I suppose it's all to do with the general wealth of the area and where I travel to.

I hasten to add I'm the exception to that general rule

I parked beside a 509 last week, outside Halfords.
I wasn't aware of them at all until I saw the "509" on the boot lid.
