tonight the lower expansion pipe (3) was cold, pipe 1 was cold
the two exchanger pipes were cold, and 11 was missing, and I hope the missing link.. after one hour of use..

I think this is it ;)

a slight delay to all of this..
long story short, I came back a few days ago from the Christmas break, (Alasdair- I had no time to pop in, but did go from Taunton to Oxford on the very nice 'middle way' Frome, Shepton, Melksham Chippenham etc, as the m5 was rubbish with shoppers near Cribbs Causeway)
The old c5 performed perfectly, as always..

back to the X7
I came back and set about fixing the broken cooling pipe junction with some ABS type glue.. left overnight on the radiator was a strong fix, happy with that.. spent about 5 very painful hours fitting to the X7 (Starter out, oil breather box removed from engine block and you have a chance at the pipe change.. still a nightmare all told)
I strongly suspect I broke the original pipe when changing the starter from old to new engine when they were both out on the floor.. the back of the starter gets very close to this junction so auto x7 drivers be aware of this ...

pipe works fine, autobox cooling pipes are now at a good temp, very happy . been using the new car for a few days.. still getting used to it - it is very different to the old car.. and to be honest the old car really isn't a bad car! smaller and more nimble somehow , and less floaty.. the new car has inner tyre wear on the rears, and looking at the wheels I am 99% the are leaning in.. will find out more soon..

but, on the whole very happy so far.. have found the Harddrive and some dodgy 80's music on it, tried the CC out etc.. just small things really ..
still have the sump to reseal but that can wait a few days...

I may have acquired a nasty speeding ticket earlier in the week in the old car.. completely my fault but one of those 30 50 30 areas.. waiting very nervously for the letter - from about now onwards...

John, that's excellent news :D

You'd have virtually passed Alasdair's house on the way back ;) I always go that way now to avoid the A303 as you can guarantee it's always all snarled up at Stonehenge...

The sooner they demolish it and use it for hardcore to build a dual carriageway through there the better...

thanks Both :)

agree Jim, I must have done the 303 about 1000 times now in 25 years !
I would recommend the Solstice Park / Larkhill Bulford Chewton and Mere as a really enjoyable work around for the rubber nex at the henge.. its a stunning Salisbury plains road,
just don't tell anyone ;)

Me and my kids then as they expressed the same sentiment last Wednesday afternoon when we crawled past it...

The basic problem is that motorists on the '303 slow down to look at it and thus slows everything up and/or causes minor shunts from looking at the 'henge rather than the road...

The simple answer is to hide it behind tall fences so that it cannot be seen from the road...

An easy and cheap fix. Amazing no highway authority has thought of it...

There has been much talk of a tunnel Alasdair and is in fact the favourite and they keep on saying they are on the cusp of getting it approved and financed but so far it's not happened...

I found the MK1 more comfy/practical especially with the hatchback. X7 wins hands down on looks, performance, and build quality.

It's kinda unbelievable that the simple white color looks great on the car of that shape and size ... you could've taken a photo of the tow bar, I'm still interested in it ... :D
