To run it from the car, but you really need to leave the engine running to avoid a flat battery.
The slowness is a problem, no doubt, but I’ll keep that car charger in mind.

I recently bought a brand new 2000W inverter for $20 because the business was going to stop selling that range of inverters. It was marked down from close to $150.

I’m thinking about getting a small solar panel to power it and see how that works for keeping the laptop from dying mid-test, like it has done a few times recently. But I think the old laptop will not be very efficient with its use of power, so really don’t expect much from the envisaged system. But a newer computer might be better able to use that power. I’m still thinking it though.
Cheers,
Andrew

I thought I'd replied to the last few messages, but apparently not.

Where am I up to? Is there a definite answer on what machine I can use?

As I indicated in my initial post, I'd like something small and lightweight. I mentioned a Microsoft Surface. Is that suitable or not?

@Tr7v8 seemed to be offering his previous Dell laptop, but he didn't confirm how he would get it to me in Australia!
Cheers,
Andrew
