Re: Rear axle beam (again)
Yes, it's a torsion beam suspension if it's the same our Xsara. No discrete springs as such.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Re: Rear axle beam (again)
In that case am I right in thinking you had to swap the trailing arms and shock mounts from the old axle onto the new one? Is it possible that the trailing arm is sitting a touch out of line causing the shock to pull the body closer to the wheel, or have you left out the rubber spacer block between the mounting plate and the boot floor thereby lifting the axle up too far?
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Rear axle beam (again)
The new axle came with trailing arms installed so I didn't need to swap those with the old ones, as for the shock mounts there aren't any, you just have one hole at the bottom part of the axle and another hole at the top and the shock is held in place with bolts going through those holes.mickthemaverick wrote: 10 Jul 2025, 16:30 In that case am I right in thinking you had to swap the trailing arms and shock mounts from the old axle onto the new one? The mounting plate you mention with the rubber bushing stayed on the car when I removed the axle, instead of removing it I just removed the two bolts holding the axle to the mounting plate leaving the mounting plate on the car while I lowered the axle however I am wondering if those rubbers are worn out and should be replaced with new ones.

Just a poor but quick sketch to illustrate my thinking!!

Re: Rear axle beam (again)
The 2 smaller torsion bars are springs. They are just not coil springs.

Indeed. A bit of semantic confusion.wheeler wrote: 10 Jul 2025, 16:46 The 2 smaller torsion bars are springs. They are just not coil springs.
