Can someone tell this Luddite what botts (or whatever) do or hope to achieve on forums etc 'cos I ain't got a clue what yer on about.

We have had floods of registrations in the past, but adding a custom captcha that the bots don't understand was a big help. We also had a period where a team of people in a low labour-cost country were manually solving the captcha and registering a few dozen accounts each day, but after a few weeks where we were detecting and deleting those accounts before they posted, they lost interest.

We are now (since yesterday) running behind a Cloudflare proxy with some fairly mild challenge rules. We will see how that goes.
