May your good luck continue. From my research so far, the 307 cabrio is the worst of the lot for roof problems. There is even a cabrio specialist down in the SW that does nothing else. Sadly I can't drive 700km with the boot lid vertical to get there.

I was hoping this was the last car I would need to buy. I 've had to take my last three cars to the scrapper, one due to chassis rust that I couldn't find anyone to repair it, and the two others developed injection and/or technical faults that would have cost more than the value of the car to fix. I wish I could find something pre-1990 without all the electronic gizmos. I could fix the issues with my eyes shut. This pile of trouble cost me €2500 and looked near immaculate so I went for it. I actually wanted a van but as you have probably noticed, vans here cost a fortune and carry very high mileages. This cabrio has less than 140k miles on it and should have a bit of life left.

Happy Ending.
After managing to get the boot floor up and out of the way I could reach a bleed screw on the pump. Tried to manhandle the boot lid shut with the hydraulic circuit open to atmosphere I didn't have much luck. Covered it up for the night and tried again in the morning. The weight of rainwater bearing down on the tarpaulin over night did the trick. Lid is fully closed now and locks and unlocks OK so I'll call that a win. I am still looking for info if there is a fuse hiding somewhere that feeds the pump. If/when I find one it will be removed to prevent me being dumb enough to try dropping the roof again even by accident.

A big thankyou to all who have tried to help. :-D
