Re: AISIN AM6 GEARBOX
I think these are two separate functions - the oil counter reset and the auto adaptive reset, the latter only being required when certain components of the transmission have been replaced.

Did anyone actually see such function in the diagnostic? I never found it, only oil counter reset.

Re: AISIN AM6 GEARBOX
That part will be located in either the repair menu or the gearbox ECU configuration section. After you have run a global scan, select the gearbox ECU from the discovered ECUs, then select this option to get into the relative sub-menus. But you shouldn't need to touch this for an oil change..... just reset the oil counter.

Re: AISIN AM6 GEARBOX
Hi, seems something wrong with my post. I think it logged me out since I was logged in during writing but it took too long.moizeau wrote: 18 Jul 2024, 07:42 I changed the oil in my 2006 407 at 160k miles when I bought it. The gearbox didn't have any problems at all. I did 3 partial changes using the method in the video. I then reset the counter. It started 'slamming' from 2nd to 3rd when the oil was hot and not all the time. It also very occasionally 'flares' between 5th and 6th. This is a known issue with the valve block. As stated it only started doing this AFTER an oil change and reset. Since then, over a period of 6 years or so, I have done 3 or 4 partial changes. The issue hasn't got any worse. It is quite rare and you know when it's going to do it because you can feel the downshift from 3rd to 2nd isn't normal. If you don't touch the throttle for 2 to 3 seconds and let the g/box select it's gear (2nd) then accelerate it doesn't jerk/slam so you can get round it.
I can't see how changing the oil could have a detrimental affect on the gear changes. What I think could, is resetting the oil counter. This tells the car that the gearbox is in good condition, new oil (which it has but not completely) and presumes the valve block is in good condition, but it must have some wear after these miles, so it's not in an 'as new' condition. With the counter reset it goes back to the 'as new' factory settings and doesn't take into consideration other wear and tear.
If I could go back in time to the first oil change I WOULDN'T reset the oil counter. I can't see how not resetting the oil counter could cause any issues and can be done at a later date if wanted.
This is not the recommended procedure, just a thought based on logic and my experience.
I'm sure I will be shot down in flames at some point, if so, I'd be interested to know the reasons behind the shooting.
Sorry for bringing your post up, but it describes perfectly what I felt after reseting auto oil counter.
My car had 3 oil changes as far as I know, first was done by the previous owner at around 180k (dont know how many liters)
I've done a change at 203.500km in 2022 with 12L (3 flushes), and yesterday with 4L at 230.300km. Gearbox seems mostly fine, but also a bit different, and after reading many posts here, now I know why. Gear changes were imperceptible, and in many cases you wouldnt feel them at all. Now, after reseting the counter, you can feel the change once it goes from 2nd to 3rd gear, it feels like its changing gear faster, it almost feels "rushed". Everything else seems fine, after changing 12L of oil in 2022, I didnt felt any change at all, but I didnt reset the counter.
I thought that even if 3y passed, (I've done only 26.900km) and after adding fresh 4L I should reset the counter, and now I am thinking I maybe made a mistke. I've also read that this is normal behavior, is this true?
Regarding your Peugeot, did it settled later? Did the change from 2nd to 3rd got better as it was before the change?

No, it's stayed exactly the same.ExOduS442xb wrote: 02 Jun 2025, 17:09

I've considered going back into Diag and giving it some 'use' by changing the counter back to a higher number but never got round to it.

Re: AISIN AM6 GEARBOX
Thanks! I hope it will get better, I was thinking of doing 2 more flushes with 8L and maybe reseting the counter again, but I doubt it would make any difference. I did noticed few improvments, when going to lower gears, for example 6th to 5th, it's much smoother. I also tried accelerating real slow in 2nd to 3rd and that time it changed gear perfectly, you couldnt feel it at all. From what I've read, it takes 200-300km for the gearbox to settle.
