Have you sent 12v down the wire from the BSI end (with the plug disconnected from the BSI) to confirm the lamp illuminates?
I would split the BSI open & check for any dry or burnt out joints/tracks.
I would then possibly try tapping into the front indicator feed, it may work or it may not, worst case you could probably make a workaround with a relay.

Thanks Marc for the wiring diagram.
Thanks Wheeler, just spoke to a mate in the UK who does car electrics, just said the same thing, send 12v up the wire with a 10 amp inline fuse to see if the bulb lights. Can't trust continuity checks 100%.
Didn't realise you could open the BSI up, presumed it was covered in gunge. With the diagram Marc posted well worth a look.
So the indicator feed could be a goer? Nice to know. Not the trailer plug?

Thanks very much again both of you

Fed the plug with 12v. as I'd already cut the loom above the rear doors I checked the wires in 2 hits.

So the BSI removal and check is next but the MOT runs out on the 7th so need to get that done first. In France you can drive for 2 months on a failure, as long as it's not a catastrophic failure. That'll give me a bit of time to play.
Thanks again for all the advice, I'll be back once it's 'MOT'd' to ask about pulling the BSI to bits.
Cheers

Update......booked it in for an MOT then decided to throw Diag at it with having plugged/unplugged various connectors etc.
This time the indicator fault was short to earth NOT to positive. Cleared the various faults including the p1351, retested ALL disappeared.
Switched the lh indicator on and blow me.........it works???
Relieved but very perplexed. I even paid extra for the MOT (only 3 euros) to include a contre visite.
I can't remember if I'd plugged Diag in since removing the Satnav or not, also noticed that whilst I was fiddling with the loom above the rear doors the courtesy light came on in the load space but can't see how that would be relevant.
Anyway, lets see if it continues to behave itself
Cheers

Did you get a good look at the pin in the BSI and inside the plug for any signs of overheating or discoloration?

They looked fine Wheeler, all pins and plugs were shiny. Must have been some crap somewhere that's been cleaned with all the plugging and unplugging but I can't think anything I purposely did that would have sorted it.
