I've just been looking for some clearer diagrams, probably not much help though.

Ah, well at least I can be glad it's not just me confused by the diagram Vs what front sockets behaviour I have seen!

VIN and boot socket behaviour coming up shortly :-)

The diagrams are interesting but unfortunately don't help me with the rear luggage area socket.

What they do show is confirmation that the front and middle sockets are fed from exactly the same fuse, F9, and that this is under control of the BSI.

I have similar problem. C5 x7 2008 tourer. I got rear camera that is powered by charger in 12v societe in trunk. I tried 6 chargers and also samsung expensive one. When i connect it it works. I have same camera in front but it's connected to bi when i turn off ignition it shuts down. But that charger in back is not turning off still works.... after some time it shuts off. When i come to start the car that camera that Is powered by trunk 12v socket doesnt turn on or have power. I have to open trunk, wiggle charger a bit and it gets power. Tried several chargers and cables, cleaned socket used Electric component cleaner in spray. It always fails to start after not using for 20 min or more.i Just wiggle charger a bit and it gets power. I was sure that samsung original charger will work because it has long metal contact in the middle but same thing. What am i doing wrong?

There's a dodgy connection there somehow. Wiring going into the socket, socket itself of the plug going in to the socket. You need to do more detailed checks to see what works reliably there and what doesn't.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to look at my car as we were in France over the summer in the other car and since getting back I've been mostly in hospital. What spare time I had was used up changing the starter motor in my daughter's van!

Just tried socked in back seat. Same case... it's not connected to bsi and when I put key and give contact not turning on....when I unplug cable or charger and put it back it starts. It's like after it turns off after few minutes it's still connected and it need to be disconnected to start again. Don't know how to explain it. Only solution now... to use front 12v charger which i use for front camera, to use it for back camera also but need to put charger cable from front to back.

I have an identical problem on my 08 X7 tourer.
All the cigar sockets, front, rear and load area worked OK the other day now none of them work at all.
This is daft if there are at least 2 separate circuits (one switched and one permanent) involved.
Did anyone ever solve this??

That is the case. The rear 12V and the Boot 12V are on a separate circuit to the front.

Fuse F9 in the BSI (front glovebox) is for the front 12V
Fuse F6 at the car battery outlet is for the rear and boot sockets.

That's not quite right. As I pointed out above, the wiring diagrams clearly show the front and middle sockets use the same fuse and are under the control of the BSI. It's only the rear socket in the luggage area that is permanently live and uses a separate fuse to the other two.

What are you on about? What I said is correct - see diagram below. The rear and tailgate 12vs are on one circuit with one fuse F6 and the front on another with F9, so not sure what the issue is? Bear in mind this is also for a 2008 model and I'm just telling him where the fuses are located to check. :dunno:

Unless the diagrams are incorrect, but I don't think I'm doing a Biden :-D

Right, here's the problem. The circuit diagram above is not for my car. What it's for I don't know but not my X7. If you compare it with the diagram on the previous page the wiring is different viewtopic.php?p=759045#p759045 which fits the setup on my car exactly i.e. rear luggage area, permanently live. It also confirms that CP00 is the middle socket in drawing E and that it is under control of the BSI.

Maybe this new circuit diagram is suitable for MattBLancs's car?

That's why - I've put up a diagram for a 2008 which is what 'marinsabac's' Tourer is (from his profile). I normally always ask for the VIN for electrical diagrams because of this very thing and the changes to vehicles made from different build dates. I knew this one would be fine as it's the earliest one there is.

Well it's something we didn't know before. Some X7s have a permanently live middle socket with an ignition controlled rear socket while others (like mine) are the other way round. Is mine the later variant then?
