Told this tale before but worth repeating:

Bought a 306, drove it home all fine. Used for just under a week by my now wife, then one morning very distressed phonecall.
"It's ground to a halt!"
"Not running right?"
"Running fine, literally won't move!"

Turned out a loose brake caliper can make its way to rest against inside of the wheel and as described above quite literally grind to a halt!

Upon investigation - all four front caliper carrier bolts found to be finger tight! (Ok, three finger tight, one had gone AWOL obviously, but that's kind of top of the tree option for looseness really!)

Shortly after I dug into the rear brakes and found all but one also loose. The remaining one had been cross threaded and driven home with huge torque.

Morons! Argh!!

Whilst on the subject of brakes maintenance can anybody recommend the correct lubricant for the C5 X7 caliper sliders?
If it can happen it will.

This prompted me to buy a torx/Allen equivalent to the Irwin sockets (the flats are replaced with a screw type surface which grip the damaged bolt head) which have a screw shape to bite into the damaged torx or Allen insert. They cost almost £60 so I'm expecting decent results.

NEVER understood these absolute MORONS who get a spanner and a 30ft scaffold pole (well, you'd "think" that was how they applied torque) to do up nuts & bolts #-o
Those sockets sound gucci AF, could you post a link to them?

Red rubber grease is the best option because the steel pins seat inside rubber sleeves.

That explains why threadlocker is a must for these screws.

I can't find the link (Amazon being a male part..) but I believe they are called Rebra 25 piece screw extractor set. The box is black & orange and cost £60. There's a cheaper set, but I just went with the Rebra as they looked great. I used these on a friends Ford (from Hell) and got out several rotten torx head screws.

Edit, also, I bought sockets too. Sockets are called bolt extractor set and there's a choice, but Amazon brand, Umi 15 piece impact bolt nut remover set is what I went for. They are pretty decent and I managed a few tough jobs with them despite being 3/8 drive.
Has anyone seen the plot? :?

Cheers Doo, with that information I was able to find it, the link for the male set is: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B5ZNWC5Y which is now in my basket :-)

I already have the Irwin equivalent of the other tool you describe, but in case anyone else needs it, as these things are a godsend, the link for it is: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Amazon-Brand-1 ... B08XJMYCW4

Irwin "knackered head" bolt extractors/nut removers have been mentioned favourably on this site before.

I have a set of those, not yet actually used them in anger! (Read as: not yet remembered that I have a set of them and tried them ahead of reaching for the angle grinder instead :-D )
