I had exactly the same problem with my car, and it was the map-sensor. and do not mix map-sensor with maf-sensor, because these are two different things.
So do your car have a map-sensor?

Manifold Absolute Pressure... I imagine these are part of the air doser because I haven't seen a MAP sensor in my C4 anywhere other than the doser...
Has anyone seen the plot? :?

Thanks for all the input, Folks. Genuinely appreciated.

For anybody following this thread, possibly researching a similar fault on their own car, here's my experience.
I had the garage change the crankshaft position sensor, and early results are very encouraging. The car was missing beats / power strokes on most journeys - mostly (but not always) in the first 5 minutes after a cold start. In fact, I think it was every journey for the last few months. Since getting it back, however, I have made a few tentative journeys, going no further than where I could envisage walking home, and it has never hiccupped. It will have to give me a a couple of weeks of hiccup-free transport before I risk travelling down to see my daughter about 100 miles away - but so far, it's looking good.

Thank you. I took this photo around 2016 when I was up in the hills for work (was servicing & delivering to wind farms using a Land Rover Defender). I just added an orange filter. I have many beautiful pictures I was lucky enough to take while at various work places all over Scotland :luv:

I just rebuilt wife's C4 (DV6) and it's been playing up. I did an injector leak off test and found No4 (pulley end) is the culprit. It idles a bit choppy, then when you accelerate it smoothes out at 3500rpm and above. I took it out on the A9 for 6 mile round trip to test it wouldn't break

I think I may have mixed the injectors around  so tomorrow, I will mostly be swapping two around....

I would say you are in the clear. If it worked straight away, it had to have been the CS. They are quite common. Glad she's up & running again :)

As ypou see from the dates of my entries, the car has been running flawlessly for a long time now, and has never hiccupped.
This thread can be closed / archived now.
Once again, thanks to all.

Damn! Apparently, I never updated this fault to say what the outcome was. The crankshaft sensor came up on the diagnostic report, so although I was lacking confidence, I told the garage to change it - and it has never hiccupped again in more than a year. It gets used mostly for local shopping trips, but it has also done a couple of trips to Bristol (about 3 hours away) - and like I said - no problems at all.

Special thanks to Mark and Doo, who both suggested the crank sensor as a possible cause.
