I don't know if I previously mentioned, on a Snap-on ODB device, all gears were functioning. Therefore I ruled out the gearbox ECU.
I had the connections thru' the harness from the back of the pins on the back of the gear selector lever pcb to gearbox pcb checked. All ok.
The auto electrician found iffy solder joint(s) on the pcb. Re-soldered them.
Can now engage 'R' without a problem.
Will report back in 7 days, then 30, then 90.
Best, Harold

Re: P1718 code
When I had such an error, tested the clutch, and find out it doesn't engage well, due to being worn out, a clutch change solved the problem.

Re: P1718 code
I'm still confuse why the mech replaced the ABS sensors to fix the dodgy reverse gear?!
I've had the ABS sensors fail a few times and the result is limp mode, a thousand lights on the dash (slight exaggeration
) and only allowing manual change up to 3rd gear.
It's almost always an electronics issue,
Saying that, I got a cracking Autel MaxiPRO MP808TS code reader. 3 days or so before it arrived, my 2012 Lingo pee'd itself 4 miles from home with all the above mentioned furore, and going home at 50mph in 3rd with the engine howling was interesting
So the car sat until it arrived & I got on the case. The front left ABS sensor showed up, along with historic saved codes. I deleted everything and started again. NO ABS code
Wait! What? So it didn't re-appear and I have NO clue what tripped it. But Ive done a few hundred miles with no issues..... I keep hearing the music to the Twilight Zone

Has anyone seen the plot?

Re: P1718 code
Hi
,
I have been having a similar issue,
When the car is cold, The car will drive as usual and once it reaches egine temparature, It will make a thumping sound and put hte gearbox into a limp mode.. Once i switch off the car and start it again, The error doesnt pop up anymore and the car drives as per usual.. It seems to onlu do this when the car is cold..
I have changed gearbox oil but still, The issue is there..
When i scanned using my Launc, I got the errors
p0591 Vehuicle crusie control fault/vehicle speed ;ootation coherence
p1701 Fault lack of coherence of the gearbox ratio - Not characterised
p1536fault stop lamp information - Not characterised
It is a Citroen Picasson 2007 model.

Re: P1718 code
Might I suggest checking for Crank Sensor codes. When cold, they read fine, but when hot, they go haywire. I think they get to a point where they start to break down & heat affects resistance. Some cars just die until they cool down. My 2000 Range Rove V8 would misfire, but keep running. I put plug testers on and watched, fascinated, as the plugs went from firing correctly to only firing half a bank at a time! Anything eectronic is subject to failure over time....LyndenR wrote: 17 Aug 2023, 07:16 Hi

Re: P1718 code
My actuator was serviced, new clutch... Still had this issue till I removed the rober arm cover of the clutch actuator and initially cleaned with WD 40 very well the old lubricant, after few days added plenty of new lithium grease.
No problem at all after that.
Even some problems with ignition was gone (probably because now it doesn't drain so much electricity to press the clutch)
What I would like to change is the grease, not yet sure what to apply. The lithium looks to get dry..
