A lead acid battery even if its quite new will have voltage drop issues if its charge drop below 40% capacity for a few times. The battery will not have enough current discharge capacity for proper starting .
A battery is considered acceptable if its above 12.55v after resting for a few hours. Every time you start the car the voltage should not drop to less than 10.5v . A lot of people think if you can start the car then everything is ok but in cars with a lot of power electronics a marginal battery will throw up all sorts of malfuntion codes for no reasons. Its best to buy a high quality battery will higher current ratings if it can fit. I myself have been using Lipo4 battery for about 5 years in my old xantia and now C5. Only trouble is getting it install as its pretty difficult.
I agree with the last two posts from my own experiences. Despite using a good Smart battery charger/repairer I had to refit an Exide Premium in place of a generic new battery with the "correct" ratings as the old battery just wouldn't hold enough charge for long enough and the new replacement battery only worked for two weeks before it couldn't cope either. The higher quality Exide Premium has worked faultlessly since fitting and I note from many of the threads I have read that battery voltage/condition has been crucial in solving many problems on a whole range of models.
NEW battery does not equate to GOOD battery.

Sadly, I think car is scrapped. Bought Honda CRV as I wanted to have something reliable, now my ex drives Honda and I am looking to come back to C5!
