Re: DVLA warning
The news media really struggle to find stuff to write about, there's a story today, "an expert says to expect lower temperatures at the end of the heatwave."

Re: DVLA warning
I renewed my license with the post office on the very last of expiry. They take a photo and send it there and then. They give you a receipt with a new 'license' number Incase you get stopped by the police. Very efficient service. And no, I didn't have a valid passport.

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Re: DVLA warning
The last time I was in a post office there was a mother and daughter asking about having their photo's taken there for passports and were told that it had been discontinued.
They were told to take photo's with their phone and upload to the passport office.
I couldn't see an option for that when I renewed my licence.

Re: DVLA warning
Oh, it's only certain post offices that do it. When I went they were having troubles connecting to DVLA through their tablets but I had to do it that day. They took the photo and sent it to DVLA and luckily it worked. Took 10mins max. I'd definitely recommend it to everyone, none of this get the photo signed etc. And no, I have no affiliation with the post office or any service provider involved.

Re: DVLA warning
I renewed mine online using all existing details but giving up the right to drive anything over 3.5 tonnes which I'm not likely to do anymore!! Took a few minutes online and arrived 4 days later!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

And may I say myglaren, I'm a little shocked at your technology use! My MIL is ten years younger and she can't even figure out how to restart her mobile let alone reply to a message without calling.

Re: DVLA warning
I have to admit to mainly using computers.
I don't like phones and very rarely use them for voice contact, only texts.
There are many things I haven't enabled on my new phone, I despise the word 'apps' and avoid them where possible.
I did have email enabled on my last-but-one phone but haven't since, too intrusive.
And don't do websites, all too fiddly.
I do use it as an mp3 player, and use the camera, which can be infuriating as it thinks it knows best.
Half the time I don't know where it is. When I first got this one it was uploading all my pictures to a Google account in a different name, no idea how it knew about that, they are always kept separate.
The worst thing is it phones 999 on it's own. I found a couple of weeks ago that one of my daughters has the same phone and hers started doing the same, once while she was driving, not touching the phone at all.
Last time mine did it the responder was Scottish and I couldn't understand a word he was saying. Phones need subtitles.
