16v was only up to about 2011 ( exact date depends on model), so if it's after this 8v is probably correct. The only real issue is the injectors which like to fail, not that hard to change but it can get pricey if they all need doing. Cam belt is 10 years / 100k, but they can shed teeth before that so get it changed if not done.

The 8V ones are generally better. These are list of the more common engine codes for the DV6 1.6 engines: As you can see on the later models, they reverted back to 8 Valves.
DV6ATED490 PS (66 kW; 89 hp)Turbo-Diesel 16-valve
DV6 B75 PS (55 kW; 74 hp)Turbo-Diesel 16-valve
DV6TED4110 PS (81 kW; 108 hp)Turbo-Diesel 16-valve
DV6C115 PS (85 kW; 113 hp)Turbo-Diesel 8-valve
DV6D92 PS (68 kW; 91 hp)Turbo-Diesel 8-valve
DV6FE75 PS (55 kW; 74 hp)Turbo-Diesel 8-valve
DV6FD95 PS (70 kW; 94 hp)[4]Turbo-Diesel 8-valve
DV6FC120 PS (88 kW; 118 hp)[4]Turbo-Diesel 8-valve

Apparently it's the DV6C (9HD), so all looks well there.

@Richard, thanks for the info.
I had budgeted that I'll want to change the cambelt, as the car has only done 50k but is a 14 plate, a rough guess is hopefully around the £400/500 mark, but well worth it for piece of mind.

Really appreciate your replies. Ta very much

I am going to revive this topic again. We are looking for a 2nd car and have an eye on a Jumpy spacetourer, since we have a large family. VIN=VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I have not researched everything but i have found a tread concerning leaky injectors. Wich might be possible since the engine was kind of wet. Are the typical issues with these engines to look out for?

Yes, the copper seals of the injectors can leak and injector bolts can loosen over time but same with most diesel engines?
I have the 1.6 HDi DV6C 8v (9HR) along with my neighbour (C4) and a friend (Peug 308) and they have both had injector problems recently- seals and bad mechanics. Both ~120K so understandable.
I've noticed mine (also 120K) has shiny looking injector bolts so likely already had seals replaced- something to look out for..

and apparently they run hot- perhaps why my c4 doesn't have temp display?
my friends 308 had a leaking seal but it was a real struggle to get out (had to go to garage) as the tip of the injector had 'mushroomed' with the heat..

Thanks for the update, meanwhile we have found a spacetourer with the 2.0 HDI. The engine looked a hole lot better :-)

Hi, I am looking to buy a 308 1.6 HDI (92 or 115) without adblue and 110000 kilometers aprox. Which of those engines is more reliable?

The difference between the 92 and 115 will come down to the turbocharger, also the injectors. Otherwise the two variants are the same..

The 1.6hdi 92 uses a simple 'wastegate' turbo to control boost/power. It is a simpler part, more readily fixable as its just a valve on the turbo side that opens/closes (the wastegate) to provide the turbo boost..
I owned a 1.6hdi 92 (Xsara Picasso) and the turbo boost at low speeds, e.g. when wanting to whip out on to a roundabout, always felt weak. Although an AA roadside mech confirmed it as working once, I suspect mine was on the way out...and I suspect that unless maybe brand new, the wastegate turbos routinely fail to boost adequately on the 1.6hdi engine though others may disagre...

The 1.6 hdi 110/115 hp will have a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). The control mech on these is an actuating arm that continuously changes and provides much more accurate boost for the power required by the driver, especially at low speeds.
The trade-off in terms of engine reliability, is more parts on this VGT turbo, more things that can go wrong. My VGT actuator arm sometimes siezes though for now, a spray of WD40 to the arm/pivot at the front of the engine sorts things out...
The other critical part of the VGT is the vane / turbine being variable 'open geometry', this is a clever mechanical trick, see a video to get a picture of how it works...
Point here is that this interior part itself can go bad, I believe the blades get dirty with carbon and then don't pass air well and you get jerks/shuddering under acceleration (someone please correct if wrong).

Long and short: Turbos are expensive (both part and garage labour costs): if you view a 1.6hdi, ask if you can look at the turbo to see the date on it.

Last point, I spent some time comparing 1.6hdi 92 and 110 for the Xsara Picasso and there did/do seem to be more 110hp examples out there with mileages in the 150k-200k mile range.
The Peugeot 308 AFAIK is a heavier car than some, so another reason to have that extra power.
