207 problems

ok so after looking at this crap for weeks i am now being told that it cold be a gearbox issue ,but i have no fault code coming up on snap on diagnostic ,im just getting p0013 what do you think...

The gearbox has nothing to do with P0013. Look again at the downgrade modes of this fault in the explanation I provided on the previous page:

• Change to butterfly mode
• Deactivation of the adaptation of the exhaust camshaft
• Deactivation of the adaptation of the basic richness
• Deactivation of checking of the canister purge

All the above are going to affect the running - there is an open circuit somewhere that is causing the specific fault code that results in the the above listed actions.

thank you very much marc but i need to make a public sorry [erm ill get me coat ] for this thread ...after my brain had kicked in i suddenlly realised that if im disconnecting the vanus solenoid to start and run the car then it would throw a p0013 code up ,trouble is its not showing any other fault codes i plug vanus connector in and erratic tick over and stalls so back to the drawing board ..dont worry you wont be calling me any differant than my sons and wife have ALL WEEKEND

Oops! Don't worry too much about it; you aren't the first to have done that and you won't be the last. However, it is likely (because of what your family have said about you) you will not make that sort of mistake again (just in case they say "I told you so").

So to get back to your real symptoms, can you give a better description of how (and when) the engine is running badly? It is currently a bit vague.
Was it already like this when you bought the car?

ok start car with all connected rough idle cuts out
diconnect vanus solenoid does not matter which side ,start car ,runs like a watch .
you can reconnect vanus as soon as car starts and it will be fine until you have to start it again,
hope this makes sense as it does,nt to me...

It is likely that if the engine is started with a solenoid disconnected, the ECU will not enable the vanos operation until the next time the engine is started.

Was the problem already present when you bought the car?

I I do not know the capabilities of you SnapOn fault code reader, Diagbox can often read fault codes that are not seen by generic readers, and can read live data from the ECU that should give useful clues.

As you have replaced the vanos solenoid valves, you could try disconnecting the electrical connectors from the ones on the engine, and connect the old solenoids to the cables, this will fool the ECU into not throwing the open circuit fault code, but should leave the valve timing in its default state, to see how the engine runs.

ok had car back from auto elec garage yesterday ,found faulty ecu ,permanant earth to vanus solenoid so what to do have it repaired £250 or cut loses and sell

right ,got another ecu had it programmed car still does the same thing so it carn,t be the ecu HELP
