I was impressed with my C5 1.6hdi economy (67.1 currently). Well, I still am... but hats off to your 308 BlueHDI, Paul!!

Just as well as I'm starting to see fuel prices breaching £1.40 now.

Driving around town mine is down to the high '40s so that's a tremendous difference but if I do a trip to Exeter around 30 miles it will do 60 mpg.

70 plus is incredible, when you consider the power and weight of current cars. Which is why there's so much gadgetry. The BX averages 40, the 406 2.1 45, and the 407 just over 50. Each one more powerful and heavier than the previous. The price for this is paid when something fails to speak to something else.

When I filled the car up at lunchtime she then took the car off me to go to her lacemaking classes. I'll take a look at what the reading is when she comes back. A lot will be on the motorway and then some around town so I would hope low sixties.

Well, she did 31 miles and the average mpg reading was 58.7. I've just used the car and put 13 miles on top of that - admittedly mostly on a motorway - and brought the reading up to 61.3!
