Shouldn't be to difficult to calibrate, check the voltage with the engine running and take note of where the needle is. I think if it stops charging it will drop from just above centre to just below, that should be enough to grab your attention.

Re: My C5 is Giving Power Steering, suspension and Other Warnings - Battery?
Hi All
It's been a while . . but I thought I'd update this thread. IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR ALL ALONG!!!
So . . if you start getting all the warnings under the sun and systems failure . . check the battery and alternator first. It took a while, and I took the long way 'round (getting the battery changed first) but I would never have dream't that a simple part wear/tear/failure would cause such panic on the dashboard. She's running fine now and the C5 is really a very soothing car to drive.
Cheers to all contributors and I hope this thread helps someone else searching t'internet with blind terror on their face thinking they have just killed their car somehow!!!!

Thanks for the update - the alternators are key as if they are not producing the required voltage output after a certain time of running it can affect the operation and function of a lot of the on-board equipment. A diagnostic with Lexia would be able to measure the output in the various running states. Glad you have it sorted now.
