Re: Look what I just scored :)
It's just as I have said many times in the past - all the best cars come from Somerset. The atmosphere is particularly kind to them...
Would you like me to pop in on Sunday and cast my eye over it Alasdair?

Re: Look what I just scored :)
I think the AX holds the record for the most 'Special' editions - eg that one that had a few flowers on it!
If you think the crashworthiness of a Xantia is limited, don't look at an AX!!!

Tell me all about it! I was alarmed in the early days of my ownership on how the door used to shut with a tinny clang rather than a decent clunk!
They are a veritable biscuit tin that's been on a diet but having said that, they are a lot more robust than first impressions might suggest and not too bad in the rust department either...

I'd make it, but the dog, car and wallet aren't up to it. Sat in the vets waiting room now waiting to get him back.

The AX I owned many years back had a drivers door that shut with a more solid sound, that was mainly due to the side impact damage that meant the door rested neatly against the seat base... That was an "interesting" drive, and I think the body must have been terminally bent judging how quickly it chewed through it's CV joints in the few hundred miles I used it for. On the plus side, it was ideal for working on the right-arm tan as, with the window down (it still worked!) virtually my whole arm from just below the shoulder to before the wrist was hanging out of the car!

Re: Look what I just scored :)
My memories of an AX are not good: a courtesy car from Citroen garage S.E.Thomas (Godalming) for a day, while Xantia 1.8i was in for service. Had to do about 300 miles, that day . . . the hardest part was pulling away from of Thomas' forecourt. Try as I may, the damn thing just wouldn't muster any go in the forward direction. I then realised that the (RHD) pedals were somewhat offset to the left, and that I was attempting to accelerate by pressing hard on the right-hand wheel arch!
After this discovery, I found the accelerator pedal, and called up all the massive surge of power that the 1.1L lump could provide: not a lot. The Xantia service spread into a second day, and I swapped the AX for the OH's BX 1.9D, for another day of business travel. OH was pleased to see the back of that AX too.

Re: Look what I just scored :)
What a great little, comfortable car the AX is ..........
Hi my new name is Daffodil, my new friend Alasdair and his friend James think I will get an MoT without ANY work....they tell me I will need a cam belt and an oil change. I met my new owner Jasmine today, she and I are great friends already. Alasdair gave me a French Car Forum sticker to go with my flowers, I told him I would join with my new owner. My friend Alasdair is going to polish me with a big machine (shiver) but I think I will enjoy being "touched up" on my white bits.

Touched up on her white bits? finding it hard to keep a straight face here
glad to hear the prognosis is good though, it'd be nice to see more of these about. Can't be a huge many left on the road nowadays, let alone in that sort of shape?
