They ain't called main 'stealers' for nothing!
Now using '00 Xantia LX HDI, pov spec :(

Same as a Toyota aygo shouldn't be a problem to go to an independent workshop and ask them to do it. Actually you can replace it by yourself (this one is very easy actually).

Just an update ... she (the daughter) has been checking coolant regularly since stealers advised her that 'water pump was leaking' and it's not losing any coolant so can only assume this is a 'weep' and not a 'leak'.

In anticipation of it needing work i've acquired a pump (aisin), genuine belt and coolant, local indie will charge £85 to fit.

That's not too bad.

I did a bit of digging around on the ins and outs of how to do this and it's fascinating to see how the whole front bumper comes off after unclipping a few points and there it is, the water pump in all its glory and easily accessible!

Doesnt look too bad a job.
