No, it only comes into effect when the engine has warmed up a little and the sensor is up to temperature James...

The engine will always start off in 'open loop' (sensor no read) mixture regulation and only changed to 'closed loop' operation taking the oxygen sensor reading into account when the engine is warm enough; usually several minutes after an initial cold start...

However, it can cause stumbles and poor running when the engine is at normal running temperature...

Hi all,

So the car went into the superb BL Autos for a bit of work - including new temp sensor - but still doesn't start when it's been left overnight. Eventually stumbles into life after about six attempts (unless the battery goes dead) and then the engine warning light kicks in after a few miles. It has become a bit of an embarrassment so I've abandoned it in the office car park for the timebeing. If you have any further suggestions, it'd be really appreciated

Nobody has mentioned the possibility of air in the fuel lines so far, so I will. Is there a fuel primer of any sort? If there is, how does it feel in the morning? If it feels soft it would indicate air is getting into the fuel lines somewhere.

No, but it would be good to check the fuel pressure in case the pump is a bit weak...

Hey - thanks chaps! Would this be worse from cold, do you think? The car starts perfectly at all other times.

Potentially if it is sluggish to get started and up to pressure... It's worth eliminating it if nothing else James..
